Why do transbrake vb's have such a variation in line pressure, my TA has 125# and I have heard griner's and some others have as much as 185#,, my question is, could I up the pressure on mine and what effect would it have if I did, also is the line pressure have an effect on the clutch clamping of the notoriously small high gear clutch and maybe help it live longer by clamping tighter.

The higher the pressure the more HP it will take to run it. With that said, I took out high the high gear clutches fairly quickly (~40 runs) so John at CRT turned the pressure up to help. I haven't had it inspected to see if it helped and haven't put very many runs on it since it was freshened. I made one run since it was freshened up

yes you can raise the pressure my turning the pressure reg screw 3/16 allen i think i would scrobe a mark were it is and move it putting more pressure on spring my A&A vb only had 150 when i got it i pumped it up to 190 to see it my 904 will live longer.

Bill............Rick Allison makes an aluminum high gear
drum for the 904 with a much bigger piston. Should
hold the car better while on the trans-brake, if you
have a big chip in the 2-step.

That's what is going in mine.

Vic, I have never had a problem with the transbrake holding but any time I have freshened the tranny up the only wear or abuse I have seen is the high gear clutch having some dark burn't spot's as if the clutch has slipped.

Those SB can be rough on parts.

Turbo Action had a problem with a bunch of valve bodies going out the door with the line pressure set low.I read about this years ago,and have been setting mine to 175 p.s.i. because of this.
I think the paperwork with my TA brake even said to set it to 175,but I don't have it in front of me right now.

Not to hijack Bill's post but all this is making me wonder what mine is.

If I can get my idle line pressure up to around 180 would that enable me to set the brake at idle and have it release as quickly as it does when I set the brake at 2000 RPM?

both my TA brake & my A&A brake have been set at idle & they've never creeped with the brake on nor have i had to raise the rpm to set the brake & they have both released instantly. i've never heard of these issues until recently when i've been reading these posts. does anyone have a pic of the part you adjust to set line pressure?
