I want to install a manual choke on my original stock cast iron 340 intake with AVS carb. Can I bolt the choke assembly directly to the intake or do I need to use a cup with seal in between?

Thanks!

I'm not positive is the gasses can come up thru the well. I dont think so, but I'm not positive (good question...lol). If it's cable you can always make a bracket to hold it and bolt it to the pass side rear carb stud...

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

What year 340 are you talking about? On my '72 340 with orginal cast iron intake I am pretty sure there is a stamped tin cup that sits in the opening on the intake. This cup has a gasket that keeps the gases from leaking out of the cross over cavity.
