Is this the new definition of a "car pool"?

There was one video where some old guy who was around when it was burried said that the wrap was lying the same way it was in 1957.

I can't remember what I ate for lunch yesterday and this guy supposedly remembers what that cover looked like 50 years ago?

I bet you remember how much you paid for your first Mopar though.

Total different magnitude of events.

There are many people who remember minute details about special occurances/things.

I remember lots of details about our 1956 Olds 98.

The one thing I notice that makes me hold on to hope, the wrinkles in the plastic from vaccum sealing it still look tight...

And remembering what I paid for my first Mopar is a completely different magnitude than remembering what the wrinkles on the front seat cover looked like the day I drove it home.

When I got my second Coronet last year I noticed that my mind automatically puts in the imperfections in the dash that where in my orginal one, and I hadn't driven the original one in almost 10 years.

So yes I can see how trivial things could be ingrained in someones mind, especially when related to a big event that is very important to anyone who was there.

Don't forget, there is such a thing as a photographic memory and there are different magnitudes of that also.

Seal?? Not.

Not on the 'tomb' anyway...

I don't see where the coving has been compromised in that picture. There's even standing water on it.

I dunno about it being vacuum sealed...

Check out this video:

Buried 57 Plymouth

Here are some images captured from it:

A few observations:
- it doesn't look like the bottom part of the cover is big enough to completely cover the underside.

- the car was lowered into the tomb without a cover on it, which means that the cover is a 2-piece affair, which likely couldn't be sealed properly onsite anyways. The cover looks like it was hanging loose on the bottom.

- the cosmoline or whatever is being sprayed on the outside of the cover... that ain't gonna do much to protect the body.

- in the last pic, the cover isn't drawn tightly over the body, which means it isn't vacuum sealed.

It looks like they were trying to protect the paint from 50 years of dust and dirt, not from sitting in a pool of water.

As a side note, check out how the skid is bowing as it's being lowered into the tomb... do ya think it'll be strong enough to lift it out after 50 years of rusting??

But also, wasn't the car placed in the tomb and removed several times for publicity shots? I can't imagine them just putting the car in the hole and putting a tarp over it.

From the video, it doesn't look like they're spraying the car, but the top edge of the cement prepping for the lid.

Boyd Coddington to revive Plymouth!

AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants to be installed.

Hmmm... I hope they have something to chemically remove rust and water from inside the engine...

You are correct. They raised and lowered it several times for pictures. So you can't be sure if any of the pics, especially of it outside the tomb, actually repreent how the car was placed.

The mud or rust on top of the car makes me ask how the water inside the vault could have been so turbulent. If water was seeping into the vault, the sediment would all be on the bottom, or at least most of it would. For there to be an inch of mud or rust on TOP of the car, there must have been quite an inflow/outflow of water at some point.

I can't wait to see this thing. It would have been better to set the car in a warehouse with a curtain around it. But if they had done that, no one would be talking about it or interested in it. It would just be a collector car.

I would bet the dirt/mud on the top of the car fell in as they uncorked the tomb.

Can you imagine the excitement back then, when everything was changing (for the better) all the time, and when they had so many great things to look forward too...

I can hear the conversations now....
Daddy, do you think in 2007 there will be 50,000 people standing around watching it come out? Will they be filming movies of it with their little hand help devices called cell phones????
Nonsense son...phones NEED WIRES

John... do you think in 2007 Chrysler will be owned by the Germans? What are you...a spy?

Bob....I bet in 2007 Japan will have the number one selling vehicle in North America....I'm not buying anything made in Asia
