I have a 1970 Superbee with a 383. After i drive the car about 10 miles it wants to shut off. I have noticed that after I stop when I look at my clear fuel filter the gas is like boiling. My engine temperature is about 195. I have a performer rpm intake manifold with a 650 Holley. Any ideas? I believe that I'm getting some vapor-lock. How can I resolve this problem.

It's a new engine. Just had it rebuilt. I'm running an electric water pump, 2" wide aluminum radiator. 180 degree thermostat. Heat-riser is open.

Insulate the fuel line anywhere it nears anything hot such as the exhaust pipes.

do you have an heat dissapating gasket under the carb?

I used the 3/8 thick one from eddybroke and slowed mine down...

I used the alum 4-hole stacked plate style (2-1/2" kits) to make a 1" 4-hole stacked spacer

that fixed it on mine,600 eddy carb,LD4B eddy intake with heat cross over blocked,1" 4-hole stacked plate heat dissapater

gasket on intake,alum plate,gasket,alum plate,gasket,alum plate,gasket,carb..ect

after 40 mile drive the carb is cool to the touch where you can not touch the intake

I made a 4 hole spacer out of 1/2" exterior plywood, no more heat problems and it was free.

I bought a 2 inch plastic 4 hole spacer from a swap meet for 5 bucks. Doesnt fit under my 850, Blades hang in there. But good for 800 or under. Hot carbs suck, Carters are the worst for heat soak, never hold gas for more than a day after a run. Header wrap is good for hot exhaust runs

I've had past problems with gas boiling in the carb. My carb was getting so hot it would burn you when touched. Solved it by blocking off the exhaust crossover port on the intake. I used 2"x3" pieces of tin cut from an old bathtub big block intake gasket. You don't have to remove the intake on your 383, just loosten all the bolts and slide the pieces in place and re-torque.
