What is the coorect finish for the door latches on a 71 challenegr?

That is what I thought, but I was told at Carlisle by one of the SME judges the door latches were gold cad and also the hood strike was not supposed to be body color, but rather the same finish as the safety catch/release.

Body color on hood strike is correct.
Brown Dichromate or what some call brownish red plating on hood latch and hook.

Did the door latch finish change over the years or are all 5 years supposed to be the same? I'm just going from memory but I thought my 73 looked gold cad.

B body door latches have the exterior portion in yellow zinc but the interior mechanism is in clear zinc.
I do not take them apart. When I do these I do them in yellow zinc completely. The visible portion
comes through the door in yellow zinc as original.

Jules,

Thanks for posting your photo's to better explain
the finish to them. I believe the 72-74 latches were
also clear zinc. To add more, damage free
e-body door latches are extremely tough to find.
Wore out door hindges and strikers kill the latches.

Is there a difference between '70 E-Body latches and the later year ones (71-4)? I see the parts book list different part numbers for 70 and 71. Cuda and Challenger I would assume be the same latch? Thanks

70 you can't lock the latch when the door is open, 71 & up you can...
