I'm taking apart my steering column to change switches etc so I thought I would install a coupler rebuild kit while I was in there. I couldn't seem to get the shaft out for some reason then I notice this freakin' rivet or something(it has a flat head on the outside of the coupler)I have never seen on Mopars before. Has anyone else seen this or have an idea about it? I can grind it out but I thought I would ask before I did. It is preventing the spacers from sliding out. Thanks!

Those spacers are called shoes.

That pin needs to be pushed outward with either a big screw driver or a punch. Don't grind it off, it'll make it harder to replace it. I think it's included with new shoes in the coupler rebuild kit.

Ahh...I see now...thanks! Do you know which direction the shoes face, please? Flat side (as opposed to the radiused side)towards the coupler groove or towards the clip? Thanks for all your help!
