Take a look at this pic and see what you think caused the damage to this lobe. I have an idea what caused it, just wondering what you all think. The other side of this lobe looks the same as this. Another lobe has the same damage also.

If you bought this cam would you run this cam in a street car or run it at all? I know the answer for me, and have a reason for asking; I'll fill in the details later.

If you need more pics I can get you more.

Thanks

No I wouldn't risk using it. At least not on anything decent. Looks to be a roller cam probably worth some $$$. Send it in to crower or comp and have them regrind it. Had mine done at comp 4 day turnaround and $125+ shipping. Not worth risking any parts over that IMO.

it looks to me like the roller lifter had a failure, kinda need to see more pics including the lifter. but no i wouldn't even consider using it. if anything i would consider regrinding it, but i'd probably flick it off.

Hard to tell from a pic, but I'd show it to a cam grinder and ask him if it were even saveable.

Running it as-is...

Seduce the attractive, and charm the rest. ****** 489 C.I.D., roller cam, aftermarket heads, tunnel ram, stock '54 Dodge rear axle assembly: which of these doesn't belong?

Honestly, I would half took look at it.
If the pits, and scratches are down, and no bumps or raised area's for the lifter to jump...I honestly dont see who it could hurt.
I would never use it in a high dollar Hemi build or a wedge, but I never cared to try diff things in the ole 440 mostly stcok 440.

I know what you are saying, but Id be afraid of getting past the heat treatment and rolling the lobe off. This cam doesnt look like it has a deep heat treatment.

Sorry to hijack this thread Von but i have a cam with some rust pitting, could that be reground to a smaller lobe, it is a crane R286, my motor has the R280 and that is too big, i would prefer something around 265 to 270.

That will buff right out.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

And no, I don't think I would risk it either.
