How high should the fluid level be on 70 Challenger, manual drum brakes. The service manual doesn't specify. My master cylinder is the same as in the pic.

I allways fill them right up. Never had any trouble.

I wouldn't fill to the top unless you're going to bleed the system right away too. I keep mine between 1/2 to 3/4 full, or, about an inch from the top. unless you have a leak, you won't lose any fluid other than what gets used as the pads wear down, and the piston in the calipers extends outward, but that's not going to happen in a week either, so keep an eye on it over time, and "top off" as needed.

I don't have any calipers but I assume as the shoes wear the same thing happens...

Thanks!

actually not... the shoes have adjusters that kick out the bottom of them to compensate for wear, so that the wheel cylinders are not over extending when you hit the pedal...also, drum shoes have springs that pull the shoes back in after the pedal is released, which is why you need the adjusters at the bottom...disc brakes do not have return springs, and the piston inside the caliper stays extended, holding the pad right up against the rotor at all times, so on a 4 wheel drum system, your fluid level should NEVER drop unless you're leaking somewhere
