I'm dusting the cobwebs off and putting my car back together. I think I took it apart 4 years ago but I really don't recall. Anway, here are a couple of pics of the Doug Nash transmission. I'm in the process of installing the Street Twin clutch and sorting out the linkages. Nothing fits right out of the box of course when you're dealing with this many aftermarket parts.

The Nash is shorter than the stock transmission and the shifter is moved way back. Needless to say, the floor pan has to be modified a bunch.

I was looking at the picture and thinking "shorter? it looks longer!!" then I realized, I forgot to include the tail shaft of the 833!

looks like itd be easier to squeeze in than the TKO gear boxes

Yeah, the floorpan was a complete remodel. Way beyond my skill level so I had a local street rod builder do the work on it. He did those mods a few years back (before digital cameras were any good) and I don't have any good pictures of it.

Here is a shot of the 512 engine hanging from the shop crane. The twin disc clutch is installed but I have a bit of an issue with the clutch fork not fitting.

A going to take WAG at a 20" x 10" swath including the whole center of the trans crossmember was cut out to make it fit. That's just a guess now, I'm probably wrong.

doesn't look like it to me. the tranny/tbar xmember on the A833 should be right behind the shifter...the DN is MUCH wider in that area, mainly because the shifter sits right where the tranny/tbar cross member wants to go. might be easier in an F/M/J because you could just weld a new tranny xmember further back and cut the original one out, since you don't have to worry about t-bar mounts.

I'm curious too, especially with that clutch....

Yep, in my car we had to cut out the original tranny x-member support since the shifter needed to come up in that spot. We just fabricated a new x-member with flange ends so that when it bolts together some of the rigidity is restored. I also added HD frame rail connectors at the same time and beefed up some other parts of the frame so it all seems to work out fine. Not an easy swap though and something I would not have tried on my own.

When I put the Richmond in my car I had an entire weekend cutting and boxing the T-bar crossmember then making a new rear trans mount . I made a longer rear bracket to move the Long V-gate shifter back to about my knee.I had to "re-engineer"the factory fork pivot the get the fork in the middle of the hole in my bell. Then that threw off the geometry of the Z-bar so I cut the factory one up and made my own Z-bar with Heim joints on the ends.
Not a job for the first time builder but well worth the effort Gotta love that 3.27 low gear with a 3.54 Dana gear

I'm not worried about that. The Nash is a very beefy transmission. Besides, I'm not 18 anymore so I don't drive like an idiot every time I take the car out of the garage. I've had the Nash in my car for more than 20 years and haven't had any issues with it. Of course, I probably average less than 500 miles of year of driving since the car is torn down for large chunks of time.

The adjustable offset dowel pins from RobbMc were great to work with. I had to offset the Lakewood housing 0.021 in one direction to get the runout in the ballpark.

The adjustable dowel pins allow you to just back off the set screw and then use a wrench to align the dowel properly. Sure beats using a puller and a big screwdriver to get the dowels into position.

I am very curious about these transmissions, thinking about dropping one into my cough firebird cough...

This is a street car and with the 2.7x gears a non-OD 5 speed would be perfect.

Is there something to watch out for? I ahve ssen several which were "proshifted". As far as I udnerstand that means synchros are removed... not what I want! Were there street and dragrace versions made by the factory? Can you run one on the street?
As far as I udnerstand with the right input shaft they are a boltin for a T10.
