What should be the correct PCV valve for a 12/69 built 440+6. currently I have the metal valve but Ive been told I should have the metal/plastic piece.

The car had 39,000 +/- miles on it when I got it. could that still be the original or was it most likely replaced?

the current valve is painted in what seems to be a darker orange than is on the valve cover.

All '70 big blocks should have the plastic "barrel" PCV with 3 vanes.

bruce,
Although, I obviously han't seen them all - the unrestored cars I've seen the 1970 big block cars received the ribbed barrel and small blocks received the smooth barrel, then in 71 most (but have serious doubts all did ) received the smooth barrel

Both types are correct for 1970 motors except Hemi. This is well documented. I have seen (and have) both styles (still with original engine paint on them) on my engines. Even the engineering documents (which aren't always the law) show both vendors. One is made by Chicago Screw - the other I dont remember at the moment. All 70-71 Hemi's I have seen are the 3 rib. Original 3-rib have "No-Vo" stamped onto the shoulder.

Post a picture, the darker color is most likely due to heat. In fact the grommet usually ends up dark over time also...

I could post a pic of the valve but the rest of the engine is out of house getting a little treatment.

Always, unless the car had factory chrome valve covers or black wrinkle valve covers.
