I am looking for feedback regarding the fit of Hooker Super Comp (1 7/8" primary tube) headers in a big block (440) E-body Cuda with Edelbrock aluminum heads. I was looking at Hooker part# 5101 or 5101-1. Is any "massaging" required to get them to fit? Are their any spark plug clearance issues with the Eddy heads?

The set I have on my car now are the Hooker S-Comps with 2" primaries and they did not fit well. I had to massage many of the primaries to get around the frame rails and steering linkage. One of the primaries on the passenger side is mashed pretty bad and it still rubs a little. It is only a matter of time before it rubs through. I am looking to get another set and was thinking maybe the 1 7/8" set would give me more clearance and the guys over on the Unlawful forum said they would be a better fit (performance wise) for my set-up.

mine are hooker 1 7/8 fit tight but did fit. one primary on the driver side all but hits the cloumn. only problem i had was the flanges hit the arp stud tops so i had to remove the headers and do some grinding on the bottom of them. i also found the shortest plug wrench i could and that helped with the plugs then they werent that bad.

Is anyone else out there running the Hooker Super Comp (5101) or comp (5903) headers on their big block with Edelbrock heads? I am just wondering if I will run into any plug issues due to the angled orientation in the eddy heads?

I just want to know if it is so major that they will not work. If I need to put a dent or two in them to get a plug to clear I can handle that.

I run the setup. The spark plugs are CLOSE!!!!!!! Have to make some special little tools to change the plugs but it is doable.

here is some pictures of mine, driver side no problem with the plugs, one tube almost touches the power steering box and no 7 almost touches the column bar actually it might even hit the box a little under w.o.t. as i have rubber motor mounts but hasnt caused any problems yet. the pass side clearance is no issue except front no 2 cyl spark plug i have to use short craftsman plug socket no ratchet i use open end wrench to take it out and back in and thick plug boot just touches the primary, the rear or no 8 cyl i use plug socket with 3" exstention same short craftsman but i had to take out the rubber inside the socket doing it this way takes me no longer than 440 with hp iron manifolds maybe even faster. also i put the headers in the car with stock style starter when it went out i had to dissassemble it to remove it went back with mini (way better anyway)starter and it fit back like it was made for it.
