When you say "the motor runs" do you mean that you hear it running but the window doesn't move?
The drive gears in the motor are plastic with plastic internal parts that crumble with age & use. You hear the motor run but it won't move the window regulator.
The motor should just swap out for the later one if that's the problem.
Another trick is to use a motor from the rear window as it usually saw less wear than the left front one.
Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

Just be careful taking the motors off.That spring they use is powerful to break fingers and cut you wide open if it lets loose.I know.Rocky
