When should someone replace the factory style u-joint fasteners and upgrade to the u-joint girdle? who using what and how much power are you making?

I still use the stock straps and bolts, you need to
understand how the U-joint is loaded against the yoke.
The cup goes into the yoke OVER 1/2 of the diameter
so it loads the U-joint and not the strap... the attacking
hardware is there for ONE purpose ONLY... thats to keep
it from moving forward. The weakest points are the
yoke itself and the cup of the joint

Remember DO NOT use a U-joint that has a zert fitting,
that is the weakest you can buy

The Moroso cap "girdles" will not fit anyway
That is Ok because they are not needed--stock retainers here and I have gone pretty fast with them ( so did Nascar back in the day) and soooo many others--BS product--go stock and relax

What do you mean that they won't fit??? Put a set on mine after a friend busted the clamps on his low 12 second wagon. I still don't really think that it was the straps fault but I got the girdles for nothing, can't hurt anything.

I had that same question when I worked a Strange.

I asked the engineers about that and the answer was basically the same, you don't need the Moroso piece. Look under a Pro Stock car sometimes, they use the U-bolts. As long as you have the proper hardware and thread engagement, like Mr P body said, the factory straps will take you pretty far.

IMO any U joint with a zerk fitting OR is crossed drilled is asking for trouble...

Solid U-joints are best and they can live on the street for years too, ask me how I know.

Usually the U-joints fail way before the straps do. Good question!

If you have much angle at all the Moroso girdles
will hit... its the height thats the problem
