This motor is being considered for my 85 D100

im considering a magnum build rather than refreshing my tired LA360

my goal is a 400hp motor that runs on 93 and it will be a carbed motor i already have a holley 750 double pumper, headers, mopar electronic distributor w/6al box

Intake: ill need to pick up a magnum intake manifold. i was thinking the edelbrock air gap

Cam: need advice on a camshaft, but when i look for a magnum cam (summit, mancinis) all i can find is mild "computer friendly" camshafts what are my options here?

Heads: I picked up a set of production iron magnum heads that have a "street port" performed by best machine with 1.96/1.60 valves dual springs i believe good for .525 lift and 1.6 roller rockers

down the road id like to go with edelbrock heads so i may just sell these and apply the money towards getting a set

get it custom ground. I'd go to bullet cam's website, look for a lobe with less than .325" lift. if it's a stock short block, I'd not get too wild on duration, as you're probably looking at 9:1 compression or less with as far down in the hole and how thick of head gaskets you're using. I'd probably do the HR274/325 lobe for both intake and exhaust, probably on 112 deg LSA and install it with a 108 or so ICL. I'd have them regrind your cam, it's $150+ ship.

if you're using new pistons, I'd use KB107's at or near 0 deck and choose a head gasket to get as close to .040" quench. even with the cam above, you should be able to run it on 93 octane without detonation if you're not too aggressive on timing.

what do you plan on doing for rockers? you could try some oldmobile or big block ford pedestal mount rockers (1.5 ratio) or use 1.5 ratio small block chev roller rockers (if you drill/tap the pedestal mounts to 3/8" for studs) to get more aggressive on the lobe profile. then you could look at lobes in the .35" lift range....

If you want 400hp you could try to find the MP 380/390hp crate motor cam. With some ported heads and good exhaust you should have it. You might have the heads milled to pick up the compression and run the MP thin head gaskets. We did the same build for a buddy, using a 1996 magnum engine,no freshining,285duration hyd roller with .488 lift 108lsa. I bought this cam as a 380hp crate motor take out,it doesn't match the MP specs, but runs fine.First time at the track in a 3600lb Dakota it ran 12.52@107mph. I'd run a 2plane (RPM or the china knockoff) intake over the M-1 single plane manifold.

Patrick nailed it, no more responses needed. I would think that combo he described would make more than 400 hp though and be very streetable
