It's some Stage VI-type of head, but you don't show the intake port entries that would help to determine which version better.
FWIW, is that a part # or a casting #?
Part #s for Stage VIs I found '96, '99 and '02 MP catalogs and have listed what they offered each of those years. You'll notice they've changed the offerings a bit and there are numerous part number revisions. 1996 Standard, bare-------------------------------4529335 Standard, unmachined guides and seats--------5249051 Ported, assembled, 2.14"---------------------5249113 Ported, assembled, 2.18"---------------------5249523
1999 Standard, bare-------------------------------4529335 Max Wedge port, small chamber, bare----------5249579 "Street" Stage VI, non-raised intake port, bare------4876311 Standard, assembled (500/545 crate engine head)-----4876991 Ported, assembled, 2.14"---------------------4876186 Ported, assembled, 2.18"---------------------5249523 CNC-ported, assembled, 2.18", flat-tappet springs----4876382 CNC-ported, assembled, 2.18", roller cam springs-----4876383
2002 Standard, bare-------------------------------4529335 Standard w/ CNC-machined chamber, unported, bare----4876819 Max Wedge port, small chamber, bare----------5249579 Max Wedge port, standard chamber, bare-------4876818 "Aluminum 383/440" head, non-raised intake port, bare--4876311 Standard, assembled (500/575 crate engine head)----4876991 Ported, assembled, 2.14"---------------------4876186 Ported, assembled, 2.18"---------------------4876187 CNC-ported, assembled, 2.18", flat-tappet springs------4876382 CNC-ported, assembled, 2.18", roller cam springs-------4876383

can anyone make anything out from that part number?? any dealership parts department guys out there?? thanks
that's a CASTING number , cotact Zippy , he works for MP he can identify them .
Interesting TINY chamber , they will need work no matter what anyone says and they don't flow very well as cast .

I sent Zippy a PM, That should be a part number with the "P" in front of it. They do have a casting number if I remeber correctly under where the valve cover goes like most all mopar heads THANKS

And the answer is: Max Wedge port, small chamber, bare----------5249579
IMO that chamber design SUCKS. Also, those are the heads that require the .485"-offset intake rockers.
Brad to the rescue , what's so bad about it Brad ? I guess it would be good for someone with a low compression pig that wanted to bump the compression with just a head change ...
the biggest problem with all the stage 6 heads , other than the chapmans , is some rocket scientist at MP thought it would be a great idea to RAISE the intake port and use the STOCK valve length.

Two main issues w/ the chamber design as I see it: 1. Spark plug shrouded badly --> crappy flame propagation 2. Sharp "ledge" where chamber extends out from plug area --> detonation issues
I also believe (based on some tests Dwayne Porter did years ago) that the OOTB chamber design shrounds the valves -- at least the intake -- badly at low lift.
MP thought they were being "trick"... and IMO really missed the mark.
As far as raising the intake port w/ a standard-length valve: the raised port itself is still a good idea. The stock length valve does indeed restrict how much you can rework the port & bowl area below the spring seat. If it's intended to be a "full race" type of head, it's limited by a design intended to leverage existing parts.
Remember that MP tried to market Stage VIs as a simpler and less expensive head upgrade than something like an Indy 440-1 because you could reuse your current valves & rockers.
Thanks Brad , that makes alot of sense , I guess a person could spend some time OR $$$ to fix the chamber , maybe Morden could CNC that chamber to something better, but WHY ???
As far as reusing your existing vlaves ... , unless the person already had bigger valves installed in their heads that was a stupid idea.
Zippy , it's good to hear that the backaward thinkers , they must have had backgrounds in finanace ??? , have moved on ...
