Hi, I got a quote from American modern collector car insurance which is lower than my Hagerty renewal offer. Low enough to get my attention.
Has anyone used American modern, and if so what is your experience with them ?

Thanks, Joel

Might want to read this including the requirements for classic car coverage. https://wallethub.com/profile/ci/american-modern-insurance-group-13013297i

I have had them for over five years now , I originally signed up thru Heacock but the policy says American Modern , they cover my 92 D150 and my Dart race car ( everywhere except on the track ) I had a claim two years ago ..my Dart was hit and ran while sitting outside my trailer while at an event .. they covered it and the claim process was quick and easy all I needed was two estimates .... they accepted my estimates and cut me a check and having the claim didn't result in a higher premium the following year. I have been very happy with them !

I had a manufactured home insured with them for a while - I think the policy was underwritten by Farmer's, not an easy outfit to deal with.
They were the cheapest available, and that was OK for that purpose & time.
As for a collector car, I'm not so sure.
Hagerty isn't the cheapest, but I've dealt with them on claims in my restoration/collision repair days, and they're top-flight in that regard.
So, I moved the toy coverage there, and I'm very happy with their customer service & involvement/support of our hobby.
Those 5 vehicles cost less than my fuly-insured 2019 "daily appliance" with Farm Bureau (also not the cheapest but good prior auto-repair-claim experience).

I've had them through Heacock for the last 5 years. I've had good experiences with them, had to use them for some minor damage on my RR and they cut a check no questions asked.

I have both my cuda and road runner insured with them through Heacock. Haven't had a claim w/ them though.

Thanks for all the replies so far. The contrast in different people's perception of a company can be somewhat perplexing. I'm with the Hag now, and have zero complaints about the service. Have been with them for over 20 years, and had my first claim last year when a tree fell on my trailer. Hagerty paid the estimate no problem. But, with all the cars I keep buying the premium has gotten very high. I can save over two grand a year with the quote I just received from AMC. The question is, is it worth it to switch?

I've had American Modern for all of my classic cars for the last 20 years or so. I've been very pleased with the low cost for years now, no increases every year like regular insurance on daily drivers. Only caveat is, I've never had a claim in all those years. So really, you don't know how good or bad your insurance company is until you have to file a claim.

I switched to them on three cars. They don’t have the restrictions that my previous company had. I’ve never had a claim on ANY classic car since 1974. I’m an insurance company’s dream.

I had a policy from them on the old road runner--I believe it was through USAA. They were fine, but I never had any claims. Some "classic car" restrictions as others have mentioned, but nothing unreasonable.

I don't use USAA for much anymore, so the super bee has different insurance.

Im with Haggerty. Never had a claim

But I know a few people that have. And its never been a problem. Always no questions asked, Simply get it fixed and send them the bill

For the peace of mind I'll stay with them. But I only have the one car so my comment might be different if I was looking at a multi car policy
