Instead...... a bunch of crap that all looks the same, running engines we can't buy, wearing decals to make them (almost) look like something that is actually sold to the public.....NOT!!! Stock Car racing my a$$. What a shame! Used to LOVE watching NASCAR...now I rarely see it......much like NFL crap.

There's a fair amount of justified criticism for NASCAR, but some things are driven by economics, sponsors, and entertainment considerations - the modern world we live in.
The "purity" that we assign the "good old days" has largely left the series, and NHRA's Pro classes as well, as they became more popular and the big money and TV came in.
That said, it's all still compelling to me - but I have some similar experience, and an understanding of the forces, tech, and strategies at play - kind of a geek's appreciation, I guess.
The current cars do have more individual brand identity than before, though like probably everyone else feels, the pre-1990s cars were more distinctive and better resembled street cars.
By the same token, the deaths & injuries have been drastically reduced. That topic merits a whole 'nother thread.
I personally hate the wrecks, but that's part of the deal - especially when someone tries to stuff his car into a gap that isn't there...(nice move,Logano).
As for brand loyalty, while I'd love to see Mopars running, that's not likely to happen under Stellantis, so I just root against the Toyotas.

I watched a good chunk of the race including the last 100 laps or so, and as soon as it ended I turned it off and went upstairs.

My wife asked me who won, and I was like "Uhh....". I literally forgot two seconds after it was over who won.

I miss the old days...

I don't know many of the drivers anymore.
I can't identify any of the cars with out reading the stickers.
The play off thing sucks.
Putting the center 6 weeks of the season on a special cable network, pretty well killed most of the remaining interest that kept me hanging on.
Dealing with the garbage they force me to endure while I try to watch a "race" takes away any interest that may have survived.

NASCAR is dead to me.

I did not realize it was still even a 'thing'

Never, ever argue with an IDIOT. They will drag you to their level and then beat you with their years of experience

There is not one of those snot nose kids that could drive one of those ill handling Mopars around Daytona or Talladega at 200 mph. Maybe Kyle Larson??????

William Byron on a 2 lap shootout. He also won last year.

Denny Hamlin got bounced off the wall behind the leaders on the last lap. I was ok with that. He's a great driver, but I just get sick of him running his whiny mouth all the time.

The 60 car flying at the finish reminded me of the 68 Charger fake wheelie in Fast and Furious. It just went up on the bumper and stopped rotating for what seemed an unnaturally long time before it finally went over.

Byron is one of the luckiest SOB's on the planet.

He helped cause the big wreck last year taking out the main players, gets through unscathed. Gets through the late race wreck again this year. Wins both years.

The outcomes of recent years sort of reminds me of the old WWF wrestling days. The hero comes back from near certain death and wins. Almost like its scripted. Who drew the lucky winning straw this week?

It's always been a bit wrestling. Like the swept volume test back in the day. Most teams get told which plug to pull, some teams already had the plug pulled they wanted tested. Little stuff like that.

Lots of rule bending for the favored few.

Not so much today, still happens often with penalties handed down for infractions, though they are more level than 5-10+ years ago.
