What are everyones thoughts? I am rebuilding my 489 rear end and need opinions if I should keep original bearings or go with the green axle kits?

If there are nothing wrong with the bearings that you have why would you want to spend the money for greens. The tapered bearings are superior to the greens. Clean, inspect and repack the bearings you have. make sure to pack with a good wheel bearing grease as this is the only lubrication that they should get, they are not lubricated from the rear end lubricant. Green bearings are not bad but the tapered bearings are superior. Unless you are running a spool there is no reason to go to the expences of green bearings.

but I run them cause they came with my new axles

some say remove the thrust block or buttons with them

7 yrs on a 489 case with the block,on the advice of moser

9 yrs and bang away with them still but I put in a 742 open case with out the thrust block and have no probs yet

results may vary and its kinda "whats your prefforance" IMO
