who is "they" who told you to delete it? Dealer? I know this is a little like apples and oranges the guy I know of that works at International (yeah I know, bigger trucks) who tells me all the time of deleted trucks that come in, and pulled right back out after telling the owner that they refuse to work on their truck further until the owner either 1. takes said truck back and reinstalls everything "as built" and then brings it back for desired service, or (2) pays the International dealer to do so before/ or in conjunction with whatever else the truck was brought in for.... Someone I know has a 17 Ram 2500 that is deleted and keeps getting bugged by Chrysler to bring that truck in for 2 recalls.... one has something to do with emissions and the other is the ABS HCU controller and doesn't know what will happen if he takes it in (hopefully) just for the brake system recall.... once in their hands I don't think they can release it back to him without having done both recalls.... this isn't like (pre OBD II) where people took their "cats" off and put a straight pipe in... because of the "rolling coal" idiots, they are taking a harder stance on diesels..... I dunno that I would in these days..... I've considered buying a Cummins truck off n on, but if I do it will be a pre DEF model. Its +$8k to replace the "filter" and stuff that isn't actually a filter, but a plugged exhaust according to the shop....A filter by definition you are able to take the lid off and replace it...An entire exhaust system replacement is not a "filter" so I am not about to pay $8k for a filter replacement & injectors. I would rather light it on fire and bring marsh mellows. I have owned Cummins diesels since '98, and this is my first emissions one, and my last one for sure. They screwed this all up, and I am stuck with it. This system does not work, and it is not feasibly serviceable. The engine light came on the day I drove it home, and its been on over 50% of the time I have owned it. My last trucks you only saw the engine light when somthing went really wrong, and that was rare. Personally I could poke them in the eye leaving us out to dry without a solution like this...At this point, I don't see any other solution available and I am not happy about it. I get that the gubment took the sulfur out of the fuel and then required the companies to meet emissions, but jumpen geewhosafit, this Cummins emission reduction plan does not work. Its probably a worn injector that is plugging up my exhaust, but if you make the injectors $1000/inj and impossible to change out, or figure out which one it is, this is where you go round and round spending money for nothing. V8 engines will be insured a long life thanks to these kinds of diesel emissions solutions.

I'd delete it... but your done taking it to a dealer there after. You would then need to find an empathetic shop ( they are out there) for future work

I didn't think they had all that crap on diesel then... I know a guy who had a 12 and as I remember that was supposed to be the last year "without". i think 09 was the last year without , I have a 2000 parts truck and my daily is a 98 , I won't ever by anything newer and starting I believe with 2026 all new cars will have a camera pointing at the driver so at that point it's all used cars for me .

The only 08-12 CTDs that were happy were the ones that got worked HARD and OFTEN. I sent many of that era to “a guy” to perform lightening duties. That said I have NO intentions of deleting my 17. I rather enjoy starting it up in the garage and not stinking up the whole place. Of course I do have the advantage of having all the tech available to work on these units, and the fore mentioned “guy” has supplied me with plenty of spare parts to keep my rig running for many years. To date I’ve had ZERO issues with my 17, but it just rolled 40k miles and rarely leaves the yard without a trailer.

Drove it home last night in a small snow storm, and it runs much better...Seems like it has more get up and go. Even sounds different.. The entire exhaust system was removed and replace right up to the down pipe...If anyone wants the old one.... Along with the Smarty tuner if interested.
It now has some kind of little LCD screen and a whole bunch of info on it. I think its the new tuner for it. Not used to that.
Also, since I am stuck with it since putting in $5k last year, and $3400 this go around, where can I get a factory Nav radio or a fair priced replacement? Mine has been giving me issues.

Drove it to work today, and its snappy for such a big truck...I noticed the new tuner is plugged into the OBDII port all the time. Didn't know that when I bought it...So I am thinking they did not back the program out from the Smarty, and now its stacked on top of it. Going to give them a call on it today if I have time. I had the Smarty set at the +90hp tune up, and its definitely making more than that now. Not sure I want to leave it that way when towing. Engine is rated at 350hp & 660 torque in stock form. With the Smarty its at +90/180 and that has been great. But its making more than that now.
Also, my fuel mileage went thru the roof. Dash readout says I am getting 23.7mpg now. Never seen anywhere near that before. It was telling me before all this happened 13-14mpg which is really low as its usually right around 17.8-18mpg super consistently, which when I checked it was really a solid 15mpg actual average per tank. So it looks like its definitely worth the fuel savings and hopefully gets rid of all the damn codes I was getting from the stock system. I can't take anymore codes that make it go into limp mode.
So if you have one of these time bombs.....Delete away!

................where can I get a factory Nav radio or a fair priced replacement? Mine has been giving me issues. If you have a Best Buy near you, try them. EDIT: (my link didn't work) Go to their website to car audio and there's a place to input your make/model/year. You'll have multiple choices... Glad your delete dilemma worked out well for you.

You’ve changed the parameters that the factory calculates those numbers. While I’d expect that you’ll see an mpg improvement, do it on paper. My old 01 would often say 22-24, but paper said otherwise. I will be doing the math when I fill it up.....Its still saying I am getting 22mpg, which if I apply that the way it was before, It would read 18 and give me 15, I should see an actual 19mpg on fill up...
