I'm in the process of getting the Hemicoupe ready for Sick Week, and I decided that the 14 year old M/T ET Streets should be replaced. Just because of age, they are not too worn down. I got a new set of Hoosier 29x13.5-15lt quick time Pros and mounted them up today. On the spin balancer one of them needs 11 ounces and it has an area on the tread that is out of round about 1/4".

How bad is too bad? Is this acceptable or not? Keep in mind, this is drag and drive. Besides the track, I'll be going 80 down the freeway for many miles. I'm wondering if I should put the old tires back on?

You could try knocking the bead loose and rotating it 180*. I wouldn't put 3/4 of a pound of lead on it. I'd get another tire first.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

The pair of M/T's that are on the car now showed 10oz. Didn't put that much on. Just left the old weights on which were about 4 oz and close to the correct spot. Ran them all last summer. If there is any vibration it isn't enough to bother. Haven't had very many bias slicks that didn't require a lot of weight. Though this last pair is the worst. Gave up trying to spin ballance bias slicks awhile ago. Just though them on the bubble ballancer. My feeling with bias? They move around so much they will never be perfect. That being said I've had street tires that shook way worse and needed less weight.

I broke the beads, and put them back on turned different with extra care trying to get the beads seated evenly all the way around. I think they got a little bit better. I'm going to see how they drive down the road without balancing and then decide if something needs to be done. Thanks for all the help!
