As title says. I'm wanting to swap one into my latest truck project.
80s D 250. I want a stick, I want OD and I want to be able to pull a decent size camper (decent enough size to need the capacity of the 3/4 ton over a 1/2 ton) any other stick tranny that can bolt to a 360 magnum that will do these things?
How about a getrag? I've never heard of a getrag behind the gas engine.

I'm wanting to know about interchangeability, difference between Chevy and Dodge version, are there different shifter locations relative to the case, and compared to say an NP 435, things like that.
I have a Bell housing and flywheel coming from a 99 gas 360 that had this trans.
My son has a lead on a trans but it came out of a (ugh) Chevy.
I know there are certain years of the Chevy version that would bolt on a Dodge bell housing, and some that won't. What years or series of truck or anything else to dictate this
I've heard of a problem with 5th gear retainer nut walking off the shaft, but that it's "just a dodge trans version" issue that the Chevy version doesn't have this problem? What's the difference between the transmission that makes this so?
I've also heard that the gas version doesn't have this issue as much as the diesel ones?
I do have a dodge input shaft here for one of those transmissions and supposedly another coming with that bell housing.
That bell housing and flywheel is mine, just gotta go pick it up found on marketplace 2 States away it happens to have been listed in the same town a buddy of mile lives in.... Had him go get it for me ..

Forget about the Getrag
Options are the nv4500 that was factory (hydraulic clutch only I think)
or the tremec nv4050. Brand new drop in for nv4500.

5th gear nut seems to be just a diesel thing because of the harmonics/torque
For chevy stuff, I was under the impression it was not worth it change things

You kind of answered your own questions in your post

Yeah maybe kind of...... There's still some questions among my earlier post.
Another thing, why "forget about the getrag?"
I know they had issues too but I wonder like the 5th gear nut with the 4500 being more of a diesel problem than a gas engine problem, I wonder if getrag problems aren't similar there?

I've also heard that Chevy versions don't have the 5th gear problem only the Dodge ones and mostly diesel ones at that.
What's different about the Chevy ones?
How is the Speedo drive on the Chevy's with this trans and if the one my son is looking at for me came from a Chevy how could I adapt it to a dodge speedo head? Is there a conversion attachment to the dodge speedo cable or a conversion speedo cable?
My son has been back to where the guy has the local 4500 he is trying to get for me, he has looked at and measured the front face of that trans and he said it matches the one he put in his ramcharger. So it'll bolt on to a dodge BH... We don't know yet if it's a true Dodge version or a 96+ Chevy one yet.
What's the difference in spline count at the driveshaft yoke between Dodge and Chevy?
