This is WHY you go look at the car you're interested in

Friend of mine asked me to put eyes on this .

Advertised as original paint, It most definitely was not Took me all of about 20 seconds to determine that in person
owner thinks fuel pump was out of it
We fired it off a shot of starting fluid . SO it runs, but no way to ck trans , how it drives etc etc

REALLY solid body and frame looked like a lifelong AZ car . so it has that going for it . But still IMO the car needs / needed some work to make a solid reliable driver out of it

Its an hour away so close enough I personally had an interest up to about upper teens money wise.
But not interested when it crossed $20k barrier

I wonder how the buyer will react when he finds out its not original paint

But this car is exactly why if you have an interest, GO LOOK in person, or send someone you trust to ck it out

Hard to believe the guy thought it was original paint. Looking at the pics I would automatically assume it was re-painted. Factory paint was not great back in those days, but it did not look like that.

Never, ever argue with an IDIOT. They will drag you to their level and then beat you with their years of experience

In the guys defense , I think he was only going off what he was told by the family of the deceased owner.

He bought it 2 years ago and has only driven it about 50 miles since

he is a car guy , but is into the British cars ,,,not American muscle

Its definitely older paint job,,,,,but not 1966 paint

I have a buddy who's been fooled by the original paint claim - he just doesn't look as closely at that because he's never had personal body & paint experience.
GM cars of that era were painted with lacquer, which very rarely holds up after long-term exposure.
Been there, even on a pampered Z/28 I had.

I never start a car in front of the seller, if they say it wont run. I will make sure it turns over, but once you get it running a large bargaining chip is lost. As for looking in person, yeah we have all been bitten. I also learned go see they in the day light. whiney

You can get a paint gauge on Amazon for 100 bucks or less. There are much more expensive ones on the market, but having something to use at all is better than a sellers word or story time. That is if you have any question after looking it over for tell tale signs.

I want my fair share

very funny.
I once bought for a friend a 71 Camaro Z/28 with documented low mileage of 23k off the road since 1983.
It was supposed to be original paint but wasn't. It already had a very old repaint on it.
Sold new in Ohio but already repainted with that mileage.

I bought Mopars, too which were supposed to be original paint but weren't. Just real old repaints being tired.
It can be difficult on pics.
