Hey Guys,
I have an old Group 27 that I'd like to convert to a modern AGM battery. Any tutorials out there on how to do it, what parts to buy, etc?
Thanks!

Messy job for sure - I did this to my battery in the RR about 7-8 years ago and cranks over the Hemi with no problems. I tapped the bottom of the posts to secure the terminal lugs but also like the idea of creating the copper sleeves to gain the better fit for standard battery connections. '' Good idea!

Thanks! Do you me convert to a lithium-ion battery and not an AGM battery? AGM is a semi "wet" or flooded battery with an absorbent material between the plates that doesn't leak or spill for the most part as the glass mat maintains the acid inside the battery, Group 27 (and group 24) AGM OE copy batteries have been around for a while (hard to find lately ) if that's what you're looking for but I think you're for a basically dry and light weight lithium-ion battery or a way to convert an old failed AGM battery case by putting a smaller lithium-ion battery inside. Is this the plan? AGM = Absorbent Glass Mat

What I have is a failed repro battery, that is probably a lead-acid one and not AGM. Are you aware of any lithium ones that would do the trick here? Thanks!

I use the Antigravity ATX20-HD. It weighs 5 lb and spins my 13 to 1 Hemi over like the plugs are out of it.

I just cut the bottom out of mine to discover this. I could see cables and a smaller battery when I unscrewed the red caps.PC950 The one before was an AGM and it was messy but I drilled pilot holes into the bottom of the posts and used small lag bolts to attach the cables.

I don't under understand how your cables are connected to the old battery inside. Can you please clarify?

I don't under understand how your cables are connected to the old battery inside. Can you please clarify? The one pictured, the cables were poured into the lead posts by the original manufacturer. The one I did years ago was an AGM that I gutted and drilled the bottom of the post and lag bolted cables to. I can get a picture of it if you like!

I have done this a couple of times with repro batteries. Picked up an appropriately sized AGM battery from Battery Mart, cut the top off the reproduction battery box at the seam with a dremel and swapped out the guts. ‘Glued” the box back together with black RTV.
