I haven't built an auto trans for a while and I have one on the bench now for a good friend. It currently has a 10" race converter in it now and an aftermarket valve body that just hits too hard for the cruiser that he wants this car to be. It's a 66 Charger with a warmed up Poly under the hood. The trans has a 19 spline input and I was looking at a street converter for it and Hughes is the only 19 spline street converter I have found. It's called the Street Rod converter that is advertised stalls around 2000. I am also looking for a stock unmodified valve body for it.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Parts to convert it to a later converter are plentiful. Will give you more options for a converter this way.

Stock valve bodies are plentiful as well.

I thought about just buying a core from someone local. I'm pretty sure the converter is a custom job because it has the previous owners information laser etched on the gear. The valve body has yellowish gold plating on the steel parts.

[quote=fourgearsavo. The valve body has yellowish gold plating on the steel parts. Gus beer [/quote] Sounds like a Turbo Action maybe confused
It may not be one based on it hitting hard, especially if is hitting hard between 2nd and 3rd gear tsk

If it’s a Turbo Action valve body assembly it will have a part number etched in the shuttle valve cover plate - the flat plate at 12 O'clock in the image.

If it has just an anodized separator plate it could be a TA shift kit. Don’t recall if they etched part numbers in their plates.

It might have a blocker rod in the accumulator.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

If it’s the only choice then I don’t know what I’d do.

They sold me a convertor that was manufactured wrong. The two halves were welded in such a way that the lockup clutch was ground off along the outside edge. Within maybe not a hundred miles this happened.

They simply did nothing to help the situation. It was a MAJOR CLUSTER BEYOND WHAT ANYBODY COULD IMAGINE. Not only did they not send a call tag, it took a bunch of time to sort this out, meaning I had to put another convertor in the truck. Just a nightmare. In the end the only compensation I got was the cost to ship it back was covered by summit, but only in the form of a gift card and not the CASH I paid.

They also carped that I had sent it hazardous, while NOT PAYING A RED CENT out at all for that shipping for their mess to be returned. I asked usps about how to send it and they said if you don’t want any blow back with what you’ve got there, send it that way and not worry. They certainly were able to send a call tag for however they liked it to go. At least summit did something once I sent the receipt in.

They should’ve comped me a new convertor and had summit refund for the mismade one. Instead they did exactly nothing, I’m shocked they admitted it was their fault. Kinda didn’t matter at that point as it royally mucked things up for me.

As I promised, I tell each and every person, and make a post in each and every post I see, to this day. Of course I still use summit over the other guys usually, to this day.

There are always horor stories about manufacturers. I know the guys from Hughes. They're no dummies. Been in business a long time. Many NHRA racers use them. It's no back door fly by night shop.

As far as a good racing converter for Mopar's I would look at Turbo Action and FTI first before Hughes work twocents up

This is just a street machine that will probably never see the track. I think I'm going to disassemble it again and change it to a late model input. I found a core that is all stock so I can do the valve body the way I want it. The late model input make a vast difference in converter choices. The converter in it now is custom job for sure .
Thanks guys.
