Hello everyone. I am a father who is trying to find a solution for my adult daughter's car problem . She owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit with the 5.7 Hemi. We are a long-time Mopar family who have always had a great experience with our Mopars, both collector and daily drivers, over the past 54 years - until now. My daughter's Jeep had been a good vehicle until two weeks ago. While driving the Jeep, all the instrument cluster warning lights suddenly and without any warning illuminated "like a Christmas tree." Then the Jeep died and would not restart. She had it towed (rollback truck) to an experienced, trusted independent repair shop. The shop owner reprogrammed both key fobs per feedback from his diagnostic device. When my daughter picked up the Jeep on Friday Dec. 13, it seemed fine until she was driving that night with my wife and granddaughter in the car when all the warning lights came on again and the Jeep died and would not restart. After she called an Uber for my wife and granddaughter she called a tow truck, then called me to come pick her up. The Jeep was towed to the shop again, who kept it for a week. The shop owner said they checked the wiring and grounds, found a suspicious ground and repaired it along with another ground. I drove my daughter to the shop earlier today to pick up the Jeep. My daughter only made it five miles (with her mom and me following) before the Jeep died again. At least this time it restarted. So the Jeep is back in the shop AGAIN. The shop isn't sure what to do with it, and my daughter is at her wit's end. She often has our three pre-teen grandkids in the car with her and I am worried to death she is going to find herself in a potentially deadly traffic situation with no power steering or power brakes. I have searched and searched the Jeep forums and Google for help or suggestions. We have tried everything that has been suggested so far. I am praying that this forum might offer us some kind of hope. Thank you for reading this and I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Stephen

I had this issue with a 4runner, it wouldn't quit but the dash would randomly go crazy, it was a bad wheel speed sensor. Basically the computer thinks one wheel is not turning while the other 3 are and it goes nuts. Maybe have them checked? My mom had a 12 Grand Cherokee overland as well, it had air spring issues, I believe there was even a recall for it - look into that too

I suggestion from way out in left field but have you replaced the fob battery?

Should probably get a moderator to move this to another section so o/p can get some help with this. I feel bad for the situation he and family are in. I wish I had some suggestions.

might look at the main battery itself as they've been having a lot of failures lately that cause a lot of strange things beer

Were any codes stored? When you say won't restart what happens, nothing ,cranks but won't fire up? Does the jeep spit and sputter(fuel pump) or just cut off(electrical). Seem to remember ASD relay causing problem. Would overheat and shut off cool down and restart. real don't know what the fobs would have to do with any of this concern.

Make sure that the battery terminals, cables, and grounds are good, clean, and solid. My daughter's Jeep was acting all goofy like that and dirty battery connections was the problem.
