For those looking for a more modern console, here are some pics of the console is installed in the road runner. I also have an e body slap stick shifter inside the console. There is a small piece of rubber seal to be added in front of the shifter face plate to take up the gap that is there.

the base could possibly be cut down in a taper toward the rear, or just a straight contoured cut to fit an E-body ?
just guessing, as i would have to see that in person to be able to say for sure.

I picked it up from a LKQ yard, price was decent... I think it was under 25 at the time (about 2 years ago). There were 3 or 4 cars to choose from. I was able to get the best one, even if I had to substitute the tray for a better one. The three 2 1/16" gauges fit in with a little mod of the surround.

I am also putting a modern challenger console in my 71 ebody. It is at the paint shop still so it is going to be a while before I can get any pics of the console in. I am using that one because I am putting the 8 speed in it so using the modern shifter w/ console is easier as the tunnel was raised to fit the trans. It had to be done as I will be using a shaker setup on my original small block engine. I hope that car will be ready to go for summer time.
