Hello from Colorado.
I recently picked up this shorty 78 Power Wagon from the high county. The truck is very solid with only a small rust sopt on the passenger door which I plan to fix. I'm looking to build this one into a camping rig. Plan to repaint the black accents and put the stripes back on but otherwise I am going for a "patina" look so I can still enjoy it. The truck was parked in a barn for about 20 years and I'm starting to go through it mechanically to make it safe to travel.

I would appreciate any direction on a front end rebuild kit if there are any worth looking into. Pretty much everything in the steering and suspension is worn out. Am I better piecing it together or does someone offer a complete kit?

Thanks!

I though this truck looked familiar. Congrats! If you are not familiar with the wiring problems these trucks have have a look here. When i got mine the amp gauge still worked but the wires in the back where burnt up.

Nice truck! It will look great with the Macho paint/stripe scheme.
I just went through my '79. I didn't find any 'front end kits', and just bought things individually. I bought most parts through Rockauto. They'll have almost everything you need and generally can get a range of quality as well. I did shocks, ball joints, drag link, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, wheel seals, brake rotors & pads, calipers, flexable brake lines, u-joints, double cardon, steering hoses, etc. The list goes on. It's just easier than calling/driving around locally, to find the parts you need.
A pre-bent brake line kit I think I got from U-line. The engine rebuild kit I bought from Summit, along with a few engine/ transmission related parts.
I was happy with all the parts purchased, pretty good quality and correct fitment. No returns required!

Making some progress. Got the rust repaired on both doors. Replaced the steering gear, drag link, and tie rod ends. Finally got it running right after a fuel pump, tune up, and a carb. Starting on the interior and the wiring next. Doing the exhaust this week. Took it on the highway under its own power for the first time since 1992.
