Hey guys, I hear this is a pretty common issue, my 2003's dash/gauge cluster stated shutting off, then turning right back on, just the gauges, truck kept running, AC, stereo, programmer, head lights etc, just the gauges, when it turned back on the door buzzer/bell etc would sound off again each time, at first was once in a while, but there was times where it would do it repeatedly over and over. A few months ago, had a issue with batteries, noticed the strands of the cable that showed at the ends were looking corroded, got a cable kit from a place in Az, was nice kit, had extra grounds etc, had it installed with two new batteries, I don't drive it much anymore, but the gauges haven't been doing that but the odometer just shows 6 dashes - - - - - - instead of the mileage, and dash says "service 4x4", but it is not a 4wd.
Should I pull the cluster and have the back soldered as I have read on other sites/posts?, I am looking to drive cross country moving next year, and want to make its all good, truck has about 175,000 on it.

Yes common, yes not available anymore, yes part number specific to vehicle so be careful shopping for used. Probably somewhere that repairs them, but we haven’t found where (depends on how much our parts dept actually looked).

Yeah, I had ordered a rebuilt gauge cluster thru CarQuest back when this first started happening, waited a month, nothing, called Dorman, they had no cores to rebuild and said if I sent one in it would be sent to oldest order they had. I did find a couple places online that repair them, one is Circuit Board Medics, plan to pull the cluster one weekend and send it off, just had carpal tunnel surgery, so waiting for the that to get back to normal.

Thanks, mine started just having 6 dashes where the odometer numbers would be, bright, no fading. Also, mine is showing "service 4x4 " even though it's not a 4wd, weird.
Yep, thats the same I contacted about sending it in when the cluster kept turning off and then come back on, repeatedly.
