'Carlos Tavares is gone as Stellantis' CEO, and in the aftermath of his resignation, a number of company insiders have come forward to provide an autopsy on his time as chief executive. It's not pretty, but one part of the saga is particularly jarring. “Everybody wanted to keep [Hemi],” a source told CNBC. Tavares was allegedly the driver to kill it.

The death of the Hemi V-8 being almost solely down to Tavares, if true, speaks to these broader management troubles. The CNBC report indicates there was a disconnect between whether Stellantis was a European conglomerate or an American one, with the CEO treating it more as the former. As a result, there was a related push to clean up Stellantis' emissions, which meant killing the Hemi V-8 and moving toward rapidly towards electrification. The latter is happening very slowly stateside despite Tavares' push.

With the CEO out, there are a lot of questions concerning the automaker's next steps. A new leader is expected to be named within the first half of next year, but there are already signs that Stellantis is looking to sure up its North American operations. It just rehired former Dodge and Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis to lead the latter truck brand. Kuniskis was known as a champion of the Hemi V-8 and the father of the automaker's Hellcat line of high performance cars. His return to the automaker after just a few months of retirement could speak to a broader change in culture following Tavares' exit.

So will the Hemi come back? Nothing is set in stone, but keep in mind that the company still offers Hemi V-8s as crate engines, still sells the Durango Hellcat, and still equips its larger full-sized trucks with V-8s. If I had to bet, I would say a V-8 version of the new Charger is on the way after the electric and inline-six powered versions arrive at dealers. Let's hope I'm right.'

Given that the car platforms were pretty old in automotive terms, the Hemi was probably the big appeal.
Many of the OEMs are realizing that the headlong rush to golf carts isn't what most of the public wants.
The EV mandate has really hurt the OEMs that aren't in the battery business, and the expense and lack of Soul hasn't helped.
It seems many OEMs are hedging their bets or dialing back on the EVs.
As I said in another thread, I believe PRODUCT is the main driver of desirability - as long as it's affordable.

Since killing the Hemi made so little sense in so many ways, it does seem its demise was due to a single key player. Now we know the culprit.
I am a supporter of moving/including electrics, and the Hurricane in the mix, which at face value seems impressive, and I am unsure why such a new unique product for Mopar is getting such an initial bad rap before it is offered to the public beyond the normal kinks of any new product.
I see a place for all three offerings. Diversity insures survival, just maybe not yours (nobody in particular). grin

yep car makers are def cutting back on ev's... ford loses a ton of $$ each one they sell... in the next few months all staying as it is now, my lease is up, and will lease a caddy lyriq.. its an ev, 312 mile range, looks ok, but the main reason for going caddy is the price... my buddy leased one for 24mos, 3k down, 401 per month... for a car with an msrp of 65k... that is a crazy low lease rate for that msrp... we will still have a gas powered suv for longer trips... i drove my buddy's... 500hp, when floored it pins u in the seat... tho the lack of sound is disconcerting ...

Just be aware that the resale value at the end of a lease matters...

I like the Caddy V series hot rod sedans a lot better, but that's me.

I have heard from multiple people that he was the main force that pushed the Hemi out the door, not government regulations. He wanted everyone on the I6 bandwagon.

He killed the moden Hemi - - - Heck: HE KILLED STELLANTIS in NORTH AMERICA!!

He was never in alignment with North American market sales goals or the supplier base!

I am not rich...but I get off my ass everyday to make sure I am not broke!

Can we get the Mexican cartels to help us with our supply chain issues? They don't seem to have any trouble getting stuff from one place to another.

A lease states the condition the vehicle must be in at the end of the term, e.g., no damage, above-average condition, etc.

If the vehicle's resale value has tanked because the market has tanked for the vehicle, that's on the leaseholder, not the person making the lease payments.

Ah, OK Mike - I guess that has changed.
Used to be if one was playing with bank money, the value at the end of the lease was something the customer kind of had over his head.
I got lucky on that when I had a lease years ago, according to the lease co.

This is from a series on Paramount. It looks like a great drama called Landman. But what is explained in this clip this clip from Billy Bob Thornton rings true.
