I went to buy my buddy's car but I don't want to screw him on the price. He is a good friend.

It's a 1971 Challenger Convertible 383 4spd with an N96 Shaker.
Currently has the factory engine with a 727 in the drive line. Red body, black top, black interior. Original 833 and crankshaft in the garage.

What is a FMV price for a ride that's been unmolested... But has been repainted...

It's a 6/10 in overall condition

Sounds like a worn, but nice driver. I’ll venture a guess of around 60-65k. Maybe 70k? I don’t see enough verts to say if there’s a gap to the 70 models. I occasionally see a 383 auto driver for around 50k.

I used to think the 70 and 71 cars were equivalent. A couple years ago I saw a price guide and the 71s had a noticeably lower number. I started paying closer attention to ads and I did see the difference. With the hardtops anyway, verts as I said are so scarce.

So is it an actual factory N96 coded shaker car, and has all it's OEM shaker parts?
And it sounds like all the numbers matching driveline is available and goes with the car.
6 out of 10, is it rusty? How solid is it?

Factory 383 4spd Convertible N96

A US serviceman had brought it to Greece and my friend's father purchased it in 1988 when the servicemember didn't want to lug her back home

Is it TX9 black too? A #'s matching big block, 4spd, drop top, Shaker, RT is going to bring some decent money, if it's also black it only sweetens the deal.

The completeness, condition, and originality are the remaining questions. Does it come with the data tag and broadcast sheet (cali built car don't have em)

I thought it was red? Factory? Black would be big time too so whatever. That looks better than 6 out of 10 condition to me. My estimate might move up.

Big thing for you is it’s local. That could add many thousands in value.

Not an R/T

Has fender tag and broadcast sheets. It was repainted in the 90s to black and silver.

Been garage kept and loved but we are the same age and he is more into dirt bikes.

I missed the opportunity years ago to purchase a 1970 Challenger R/T 440+6 4spd car locally, Red w/ tan interior . The guy literally outbid me with 8k cash, and a freshly restored 1967 Mustang

Actually just to clarify it's cost/purchase price, not value but we know what you meant up

So I got a hold of the fender tag and decoded it below

There is a 3rd fender tag but its a small one that has "11" written on it and the numbers are inverse of the alphanumeric on the two regular sized fender tags. What does the 11 mean?

My original guess with limited info was $40k.

I must be in the past. shruggy Now if it was a 8 or 9/10 I'd have guessed $60k ish.

Facts are stubborn things.

Uhhhh, not buying H51 and N96 together on the same car.
But E-body 4-speed convertibles, already located where it's convenient for the buyer & friend of the seller - shouldn't be at the bottom of the market.
I'd have to confirm condition and validity of options/equipment/tags, but $60,000 may be about top money IMHO.

its a great bait tactic to get the fender tag...I still wanna know what the 11 is...is that a dealer installed tag?

Maybe its B51? I know it has power brakes...

No, bud, I'm not after the fender tag - I don't collect that info, nor do I do anything nefarious with that stuff or any other documentation - but it doesn't have N96 on it, looks like N85.
Haven't seen that "11" tag before - line inspectors usually punched into a flimsy strip attached to the FT. That's a curiosity.

No big deal to me either way - I still think it's a pretty cool car.

Ummm did two fender tags not load into your screen? N96 is clearly stamped in second tag

The code directly under the screw is looks like B51, This car is pretty well loaded.
I wonder how many non RT 71 Challengers were built with N96 that year.
