Have a friend looking for more information on what Cam Shaft he should use in his 572 Hemi. Here is some stuff I know about the motor and what he would like to accomplish from his motor. Aluminum Block, Eddy Heads, 450 bore. Would like for the motor to be a strong street motor on pump gas and I believe it is 10.2 compression. Has to be a real Roller nothing hydrallic or solid just Roller everything lifters, cam, rockers. Looking at something it the 650 range maybe a little more will see little to no track time but will be driven on the street. I told him I would post here and see what other are running. Not sure of his Rocker ratio but let say 1.5 to 1.6 range. Any information would be a big help to him, He has heard my opinions so lets hear some from others.

I know little of Hemi camshafts, but IMHO, ordering one from For Hemis Only would be my choice. Email them if possible, ask for a form to fill out. They may go beyond just duration specs, tell you about things they have learned on keeping a Hemi healthy for a long happy street life.

I believe his rockers are 1.5 but I know of the issues and I will help mock up the motor before final assembly. Also Keeping the Valve Spring pressure down will help out with push rod diam. I can do what Tim at FHO does and give some Cam guy a call and ask what they thing but I am asking here to see what people have used and what they think of the product the have picked.
Hot 340 did you happen to take any pictures of the mod or opening you had to do on the heads for clearance in the push rod area. If you used 1.6 I have seen some closeness and touching in the area but would love to see so pictures to see what clearance is needed. No problem with a Stage V head with the push rods. Hot 340 what size push rod did you use or use on the first try that the issue was noticed.

I got the cam for my 540 from Ray Barton. VERY happy with it. Call a few of the HEMI builders to get recommendations. Some have built hundreds of HEMIs over the years. Can't go wrong with that experience. If everything else is in line, 650 will be effortless and won't take anything exotic. I went with tool steel flat tappets (again) in the 540 because I didn't want to mess with any inspections or rebuilds on the rollers. I know that will be debated here, but I have ran them in several (primarily street) engines the last few years with zero issues.

There was a thread about Hemi Cam Shaft choices and a few people did post with their specs but I can not find anything on Moparts when I do a search. I have known Ray Barton and Tim Banning since the mid 70s. Since all these guys have headed south of the boarder most of us had to find another Machine Shop and another friend that worked on Funny cars has joined a local Machine Shop and now we are talking our stuff there and I ask him and he is also going to recommend a Hemi Cam. I have a friend that also has a 604 that he assembled and had the motor machined by John the guy Banning use to use before moving. It is a roller around 640 lift his first pull on Johns Dyno with Banning doing the pull made 830 HP but has a lot more head work that this other motor and CI. I recommend to him this cam shaft. I just want to compare the easy way by asking what other have and if if is a custon built cam or just a normal Roller Cam. I know the Roller Lifter deal but being a racer I check things a lot over a year and do not mind taking Valve Covers off. I have seen also a lot of the parts for Roller Lifter has come back across the ocean because to put it plain the stuff from China was Garbage. When the Roller lifters need building you could not get this done and now some companies are starting to ramp out to do it again. When you have 4 and 5 seta of rollers lifters that is a good thing. To say it again this is a street only motor and I believe witll maybe make 700 or more HP.

I consider my 540 to be mild. Runs on 91 pump swill. Made high 600hp with MCH ported Eddy heads, Indy dual plane intake and a 1050 Dominator on the engine dyno during break-in. Sounds like a HEMI at idle and has good street manners. Barton nailed it. www.facebook.com/SRTeric/videos/1239616772751002

We ran a .116 wall 5/16 pushrod with the 1.6 ratio exhaust rockers. Did have pics but I can't find them. We did not grind on the head for clearance. We just used it like that till he bought a better rocker setup. A 3/8 pushrod wouldn't clear with the 1.6 ratio, didn't even try to assemble it with them. Despite all the raving about Edelbrock Victors, they have their issues that weren't thought about thoroughly.

I have put several together with Victor Jrs, Keith Black rocker stands (I realize you can't get those anymore), 1.6 Stage V roller rockers (I don't know if those are available again yet) and it worked. It looks like it's rubbing, but you can get a piece of paper in between there and it didn't leave a witness mark on the pushrods. Ray's rocker arms are usually 1.5 (you can get most any ratio you want) so they probably wouldn't be an issue. I have also used the same rockers on Stage V's.
Edit: These were all with 3/8" pushrods.

As others have mentioned speaking to those who've built gen 2 hemis for hundreds of people is probably your best route. I will say though, given the cubic inches, street application and HP goals, you're likely looking at a cam with a duration spec (at .050") of 240-255 degrees. Many Hemi grinds meant for these inches and heads will have a lot more duration, but the power-band will be north of 4000rpm. You don't want that on a street engine. While a smaller cam like I'm suggesting will leave a lot of peak HP on the table, it will actually deliver the power you want at an rpm range you'll be using. Too many people over cam their engines and their cars run like turds.
Compression, Cam, Converter, and gears....they've got to be matched up for your intended purpose.

I run 267@ .050 in a pump gas 528 hemi. The converter is an Ultimate 5200. It drives around like anything else until you mash it. It's blasphemously overcammed according to the 1980's car mag editors. It has no bad habits. None. It does rattle the neighbors windows a little.

Well, it depends...How much do you like your valve train....First cam eats springs, second cam, so far, so good. Both seem mild, idle at 950 and run good with a Sniper 4500 on it.

I had Dwayne Porter spec the solid roller cam for my 572" Hemi. It's a pump gas 10.5 to one . I am well pleased with his recommendation.

I run a custom nitrous grind solid roller with over .800 lift with plenty of street miles on 93 pump gas in my Hemi with a 9" 5600 PTC converter.
