when i installed the new carpet in my 69 charger this spring, i put the foam square between the carpet and foam, correct or not. my thinking was the foam would act as a moisture "deterrent", keeping any moisture away from the carpet. however, i installed a "gasket" cut from a roll of gasket material the shape of the foam gasket, [slightly larger in fact] sealed to the floor with a thin smear of seam sealer, before the foam square, just to be absolutely sure no moisture would come through this area. i know this isn't correct by any stretch of the imagination, but that's what i did anyway. i also greased up the gas pedal studs with high temp copper anti-seize before i nailed down the pedal for the final time. i will more than likely never remove the pedal in the rest of my lifetime, but did so "just because".

In my experience, water on the floor of a vehicle is infinitely more likely to come from above the car than from underneath. As such, I try not to seal my floors watertight, let the water drain out. I've even gone as far as punching extra holes, A bodies can really use that.

Hi all, I'm installing my brand new carpet in my 69 "bee", now I have this big 1" thick square white foam gasket that goes around the bottom of the gas pedal ( where it bolts to the floor) question is ..... does this foam gasket go under the carpet, between the floor and carpet - or - on top of the carpet, between the pedal and carpet ?
Later, BUZZ That foam gasket actually goes under the carpet—right between the floor and the carpet. It’s there to make a nice seal and keep things smooth around where the gas pedal bolts in
