Hi all, I'm installing my brand new carpet in my 69 "bee", now I have this big 1" thick square white foam gasket that goes around the bottom of the gas pedal ( where it bolts to the floor) question is ..... does this foam gasket go under the carpet, between the floor and carpet - or - on top of the carpet, between the pedal and carpet ?

Later, BUZZ

when i installed the new carpet in my 69 charger this spring, i put the foam square between the carpet and foam, correct or not.
my thinking was the foam would act as a moisture "deterrent", keeping any moisture away from the carpet.
however, i installed a "gasket" cut from a roll of gasket material the shape of the foam gasket, [slightly larger in fact] sealed to the floor with a thin smear of seam sealer, before the foam square, just to be absolutely sure no moisture would come through this area. i know this isn't correct by any stretch of the imagination, but that's what i did anyway.
i also greased up the gas pedal studs with high temp copper anti-seize before i nailed down the pedal for the final time. i will more than likely never remove the pedal in the rest of my lifetime, but did so "just because".

moparx, thanks for the reply but, in your reply did you mean to say; i put the foam between the (floor) and carpet ? because your answer says you put it between the foam and carpet.

Between floor and underside of carpet - to keep moisture from pedal studs seeping into the jute insulation.
BTW - Base of pedal should mount just inside the forward corner of the heel pad, and just inboard of the heel pad's right border.
It's tough to cut that rectangle - which should be same size of the raised portion at the pedal mounting surface.

Unfortunately, you can’t just cut a hole for the gas pedal in the top right corner of the heel pad with aftermarket carpet. Most heel pads are way off from where they should be. Even on the ESC carport. You need to fit it at the hump first. Automatic floors are easier than four speeds to fit. The foam goes under the carpet.

In my experience, water on the floor of a vehicle is infinitely more likely to come from above the car than from underneath. As such, I try not to seal my floors watertight, let the water drain out. I've even gone as far as punching extra holes, A bodies can really use that.

yes, this foam is part of a kit I got from (DMT) detroit muscle technologies they sponsor here... this kit supplies all gaskets to reseal your car if you stripped it apart for a body job and/or repaint.

Latter, BUZZ

That foam gasket actually goes under the carpet—right between the floor and the carpet. It’s there to make a nice seal and keep things smooth around where the gas pedal bolts in

Agreed,
Helps hold the carpet up against the bottom of the gas pedal
