Hot 340 OP master Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 3,404 Pa	Any recommendations for a cheap sonic tester that has a head that can measure cylinder wall thickness? Or one where a head can be modified to do it? It was always difficult to justify buying one of the high end ones when I don't machine blocks for a living. Anything out there nowadays?

DracerX member D Joined: Sep 2022 Posts: 7 Florida	Amazon: REED Instruments TM-8811 Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge $395 I hand filed the head to work on cylinder bores. Been working great so far and is within 0.006" of cast iron sections measured with verniers.

Cab_Burge I Win C Joined: Aug 2003 Posts: 43,838 Bend,OR USA	I bought a Dakota 1000 sonic tester years ago and have used it on my own stuff as well as doing sonic testing customers block and other parts they want tested including chrome moly tubing for race car cages I quit buying cheap parts when they almost wreck me, same thing on every other race car parts related Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)
