Wondering who is running methanol and " why"?
We are running 5.90 1/8s in decent air up to about 300 da , 75-80 graims of water and say an average barometric pressure of 29.6 at 95 degrees. We get Da's above that, i have to back the car up and run 6.09 index . Yes, i can run rpm up and stick a degree of timing in, run pretty lean and stay on the 5.92 index by really pushing things hard but, honestly, we aren't racing for enough money to "hang everything out " .
We had a grudge type call out from a guy that was talking smack and pretty decent bet so- yea, i putit on the razor blade and we took the money, but, thats not my point.
Is methanol truly more consistent?
We are at 14.5 compression- cylinder pressures greater with methanol?
Engine cooling in texas summers im assuming is better.
Does it really make more power ?
Whats your maintenance? ( oil change every race, pull valve covers for evap of water etc????
What plug ranges , how much timing change, what are we looking at for air/fuel ratios ? ( i can read methanol plugs but, just started studying the fuel and assume we just use lamda?

We are on c12 , 850 hp in current config , 14.5 , 3270 lbs - will methanol improve our program . The only time we get on the struggle bus to get on index and stay there is around 100 degrees ( and up), 130 grains of water , 28.50-75 barometer and 130 + degree tracks- fuel wont help track temp but wondering if the methanol will help with our summers here in texas. Most bracket guys down here run it.

Blessings all.

( PS- To all you guys building for more power: When DVW , Porter and others tell you your 8.75 rear end will not live no matter how much money, cryo , polishing and bracing you do- take it from a hard head and listen to em, that mistake just cost us the championship after being number 1 or 2 all year. Lesson learned, Dana with pro gear in now.

I have ran it for years. As to weather it makes more power or not.....It depends. It will make more torque most of the time but how much an engine will pick up is dependent on many factors. 14.5-1 is an excellent spot to be for compression. I run it for consistency. I just won a big 8 round race yesterday and My car ran 5.473 first round, stayed 47 all through elims and was 5.471 in the final. As for cooling yes that would be huge for Texas weather too. I won a 7 round race one time in the middle of the summer even after my water pump burnt up. eek

I run a vacuum pump and never have any moisture issues. Can run my oil as long as you would with gas.

I don't subscribe to a timing change switching to alky either. I run the same as I did with race fuel.

14-1 I run a NGK-8 heat range. Plugs last forever too. Mine are 3 years old lol.

I run methanol, 15.25 compression, made 982 hp on the dyno with a 549/Indy 572-13 heads. Methanol needs some heat in the engine. I leave at 170 to 180 degrees, and lean it out on the return to get water temps up to 200 and oil stays clear . That also saves fuel, which you will go through a LOT more of. I run a Primerplus system from Killer Ron's to warm rhe motor, idle to and from the line, and clear the motor at the end of day. Plus it cut my methanol use in half or to a third. Always clear the fuel out of your motor at the end of the day to preserve your cylinderwalls. Methanol will absorb water vaper and rust cylinders if this is not done . Use Klotz fuel lube! If you go mechanical fuel injection, you may see what i did for gains. I gained a solid two tenths ET in the 1/4 back then, from 9.60s to 9.40s with a 499 and 440-1 ynported heads, 12.5 compression. If you switch to methanol, post again and we can help you with what to do/not to do.

I have done a couple of carbs to injection switches on the dyno, and we almost always find more TQ, and usually more Hp. On larger > 600CI with high compression, that didn't hold true, we made more with race gas. Also, we usually have a few degrees less timing.
Your setup, with 14.5 compression, is a great candidate for methanol.

I run injection on my roadster, and I am trying to remember if I turned on the fan this year. LOL
I have the same issue, above 130 grains of water we are going to be running slower, I actually pay more attention to the water grains then to DA.

If you have the engine out this winter and are changing it over to injection, bring it down, and we will get you set up. Mention you are from Moparts and I will take care of you.

We started using methanol this year. We use an APD 4150 style 1040 cfm. carb. We use a star vacuum pump. I have a lean out valve. Our car picked up .15 in the 1/8th mile when we switched to alcohol. We ran 5.85 at 10:00 am and 5.86 at 11:00pm. It's very consistent. We try to get it up 200 deg on the way back to the trailer. When we put the car up for the week we run the carb out of alcohol and pump the accelerator pumps dry. I take a large syringe and fill the carb back up with gasoline. We start the car back up and run it for a few seconds. that gets the alcohol out of the carb and the engine. We change the oil about every 50 passes.
