I'll be 70 in few weeks. Hope to still be racing in 80's. A few guys I race with in S/S are in there 80's. Two drive sticks. They are still a threat to win as well. Plenty over 70 that are threat.

A few weeks ago in the winners circle with my Dart I am 70 ... a friend that’s 71 won in another class that day . I would like to think I can keep going for a few more years , I have quite a few friends in their mid 70s still racing and doing well.

Not surprising to see these guys out there, and doing well, if you hang out in the Stock/Super Stock cult.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Great story. One of the class champions at our local track (Woodburn) was 80 when he won the championship a couple of year ago.

My son and I have had the conversation. What would our outcome be if we ran more than 80-100 runs a year? Some of these guys are 300+. Neither of us race every week. We both regularly go against trans brake equipted opposition off the foot brake. Yet we've managed to go quite a few rounds with a fair amount of wins. I don't think it's age related as much as making laps.

I’ll be 79 in a couple months. I’m not a professional racer, but still enjoy shifting the gears.

My buddy Cecil - you'd know him from the '65 Melrose Missile - has been bracket racing a '57 Chevy SB stick car for several years now.
When I say stick, I mean it still has a 3-speed with its column shifter.
He actually does pretty well with it.
He's 84, I think.

I know another guy who's a Ford guy, runs low-9s; I've seen him do pretty major work between rounds.
He's one of the hardest-working guys I've ever seen, does most everything by himself, and he's gotta be 84 or 85.

I think it was last year when I went down to MIR there was a guy in the lanes whom I know is a regular. He's a one-man operation hauling his ol' Chebby to the track and it wasn't until we were talking for the first time that I realized he had 10 years on me (and I was 64 at the time). I told my wife he's my new hero cuz he's still out there doing it on his own. Too bad I can't remember his name now.... wink

Pushing 76 in Nov. enjoy racing. I think you nailed the old and cranky part. Lucky to have a good young friend to help with race car even when he is racing! And a wife who tolerates my racing.
