I just didn’t have enough va-ca to swing it. I was fortunate to be able to experience 5 years of Drag Week, with Joel. Got to meet many people from around the world, and become friends with them. I saw many parts of the United States, I never would have went to, had it not been for Drag Week. But life changes... I only get so much vacation time from work, and there are 2 vacations a year I truly cherish these days. One week with my Dad, and the other in a warm place, with blue water, during the winter, with someone that makes everyday enjoyable. Those win out, over Drag Week, and Joel's morning Tuba practice in the hotel bathroom.

I'm sad to miss it this year but had lots of stuff going on. In a strange turn of events my car is actually 100% drag week ready mostly because I didn't plan on going haha. My son and I just had it out and put 60 or 70 miles on it this past Sunday.

Good luck everyone! A coworker is going this year for the first time with his pro streeted, procharged '69 Mustang. He has done Roadkill Nights a few years in a row, but this is his first drag and drive experience, I'm signed up but skipping it due to personal reasons, canceled the hotels last month. Car is ready to go, have been using it most of the summer, but the new motor isn't done, still at the machine shop. If it fits in the schedule, I'll do one next year. Those win out, over Drag Week, and Joel's morning Tuba practice in the hotel bathroom. Still planning on eventually doing D&D's with the GTX when it's returned to street duty?

I talked to Joel on the phone yesterday, and it turns out he WILL be going on Drag Week this year. How? Well it's not for staying focused on one project... The HEMI Coop? All taken apart... Probably forever, just like another old car he took apart and neglected. The PLAN B 1967 HEMI GTX, that we thrashed on, and got ready to run Drag Week 2017? Nope. In typical Joel fashion, he took another finished, running car, and disassembled it for the HEMI, to put in his Land Speed car. The Trusty 1967 HEMI GTX Convertible, that has easily completed 2 Drag Weeks, and looked good doing it??? Nope. He's too cheap to put a new battery in it, and it's too much work taking it out of another one of his cars. Instead he will be driving his Slowsmobile 442.
So if you see Joel on Drag Week. Check up on him. He's a Senior Citizen, although slow, and dangerous behind the wheel, he still likes talking to random strangers.

Don't believed 90% of what Jeff says!
I raced the Hemi coupe at sick week and dropped out on the 4th day with a broken oil pump drive shaft. After I got home, I took it apart and learned that the bolts that hold the plate on the front of the block that stops forward movement of the cam had rattled loose. The cam moved forward and the some of the lobes contacted the adjacent lifters and the resulting shavings got into the oil pump and jammed it. I decided to freshen it up and had the block honed and got new rings and stuff. But while I was waiting for the block, I decided to focus on the land speed roadster, including a hemi I'm converting to mechanical injection, and a Liberty Equalizer. And I'm sticking with it until its done, hopefully in early november. Then back onto the coupe and try to make Sick Week in february. Then hopefully ElMirage and Bonneville with the roadster in 2025.
I did yank the Hemi out of the F.A.S.T. GTX and dropped it into the land speed car, so that car is out of commission for now. I did get the GTX hemi convert out, but the master cylinder failed. When I fix it, I want to go thru all the brakes and switch to DOT 5 fluid, and probably put in all new hoses. I have too many other things I need to do before Drag Week to work on it. The 442 is ready to go and needs nothing, so that's what I'll be driving to Drag week. Nothing wrong with driving a warmed up big block 4 speed convertible, it's fun car that I've had for 44 years!

Name one thing that wasn't true Joel. LOL. Those definitely seemed like facts. lol If any of you need help on Wednesday night or Thursday, PM and I'll do my best. I don't have a lift but do have a garage and plenty of tools, I'm about a half hour north of Milan.

Pics of the 442 please! I don't want to hijack the thread with a non mopar car, but here is a thread about the whole story i did on Bangshift: https://bangshift.com/forum/forum/b...woke-up-after-23-year-hibernation-updateThat was about 14 years ago. Since then I drove it on Power tour, Cars and cones Road Trip (like drag week except you autocross), Drag Week, Rocky Mountain Race Week, and Death Week. It's been very reliable.
