Asking for a friend. 70 Charger 500. 383-4 with a/c. Does it get a group 24 or 27? What color caps?

Thanks for the link, but still unclear as to what the listed std. 46 amp hour and optional 70 is. Is one a group 24 and one a group 27 ? What color caps on the correct battery for the Charger?

I think you'll need your build sheet to tell for sure if you had the 24 or 27. The 24 had yellow caps and the 27 red. I would suspect if the car didn't have a lot of options they may have stuck with the group 24, but again your build sheet will be the definitive resource for that one.

I would say a group 24 yellow cap with a 383.

as stated, do you have a broadcast sheet? work
the "F23" group 24 battery would be STANDARD (94.5% of production) & the "F25" group 27 battery OPTIONAL (5.5%) for the '70 Charger 500

the group 27 batteries are often found in cars that sold in the cold weather winter areas (think: the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin) and in heavily OPTIONED cars

Thanks. It's a pretty loaded car. A/C, power windows, rear defog. Original owner, beautiful car. Plum Crazy, 1 repaint.
They have checked some places for the b/s, but haven'tpulled the back seat yet.

I've had 3 '68-'69 factory AC 383 B-bodies, and all had a Group 24 battery.
Dad's '66 Sport Fury - 383, AC - same deal.
None had PW or power seats, but I'm not aware of those options mandating a Group 27.

Don't trust that Google guide. It all depends on your build sheet, I have seen many A12 Runners and Bees with the group 24 yellow cap from the factory.

That's interesting as the dealership data book for 1969 calls out for a group 27 battery as standard for the 440 and the Hemi. So I can see what the guide is apparently based on. But who knows. shruggy

that's what "GUIDES" are - if you need a more specific answer you need more details in the question work

all 1969 (A12 PACKAGE CARS) Six Pack/6-Barrel cars had a group 24 battery (an upgraded engine was part of the "package", a battery was not)
