Speaking of AAR hoods & A12 hoods, there was a vendor there named Jim Rodgers of Penstar Reproductions selling these, among other things. He's from Doyelstown, PA. I talked with a guy about 4-5 years ago from PA. that claimed his (AAR hoods anyway) hoods were made from the original molds, & that they were better than OE because they were beefed-up in the hinge areas, but he said he was about done making them because they were so labor intensive. They were all wrapped in shrink wrap, so I could not get a good look at them at all.

Does anybody know of him & the quality of his hoods? His website: www.penstar.net

Known him for decades but never checked out his hoods. Been in business a long time, so he must be doing everything right... twocents

I'm looking for an AAR hood but I never saw his hoods there.

I only saw 2 AAR hoods in the swap.
One was essentially just the upper hood skin with almost all the structure underneath cut off.
The other was simply rough IMO for $1,000.

I wish I had seen him there. blush

Any idea on pricing.

His website doesn't show anything at all about hoods.

Ahh, that's why I didn't see him.

I only took a quick pass through the midway on a golf cart Friday Morning.

Any idea on pricing. He was asking $600.00 for the AAR hood, & the A12 hoods. Suspiciously cheap for GOOD hoods - this is why I'm trying to research this guy. I just looked through my AAR file & found nothing on this guy. Gotta look through emails next. Because the hoods were pretty heavily wrapped in shrinkwrap, I could not get a good look at them or the underside of them.

His website doesn't show anything at all about hoods.

OK, I dug into some old emails & found the following:

(This is from 2012): I just called & spoke with Barry at ASC&P. Sounds like they build good AAR & T/A hoods, BUT also sounds like he is getting close to discontinuing building them because they are so labor intensive.

Here is a link to photos of these hoods: http://www.abnerjones.com/hoodpics.htm

Barry's phone #: (610) 458-8395. He sounds like a good guy & spent a lot of time going into details about how he builds them & his emphasis on quality. Gotta make my mind up fast on who's hood I'm going to buy for my AAR. AAR hood is $850.00, T/A hood is $895.00.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My AAR was missing it's original hood and I bought the ASC&P repro. I have never had the opportunity to compare it's appearance to an original, but I can vouch for it's good quality construction. It apparently features strengthening to avoid the warping that the originals had, which is either good or bad, depending on your point of view! ASC&P also supply a windshield washer set which was particular to these hoods. Hope this helps.

ASC&P (Barry in Pennsylvania) has the best T/A hoods. I didn't know he made AAR hoods, but I imagine if he makes them they are top notch.

ASC&P & First Place Auto Products both have the windshield squirters available. Of the two of them, the First Place Auto Products are better.

Well I tried contacting assorted numbers about the AAR Hoods.

Left a voicemail with the number on the contact number at https://www.penstar.net/.

Tried calling Barry at ASC and I think he got a laugh and said he quit making them 30 years ago and sold the molds to a guy in Kansas who never did anything with them.

Hopefeully Penstar will call me back. callme
