I need to have a mobile welder come to my house to weld the perches on the rearend in my Dart. If any Detroit area members could recommend someone, I would appreciate it. I am actually in Macomb County.

Before I had weld capability I used Tony Whitehead, "The Mig Welder".

I don't think he ever did anything online at all, was strictly shows/swaps/word of mouth.

If nobody else chimes in I'll dig for his number (he might be in an old business card book out somewhere in the shop)

Steel fab shops that build and install commercial steel stairs and hand railings will have mobile welder trucks as part of their business model fyi. If you strike out do some searching in that direction. They won't advertise themselves as mobile welders as that is not really what they do, but you may get one who is willing to help you out for some quick money if they are in your neighborhood.

Still need to find a welder if anyone else has any recommendations. I've tried contacting numerous welders but either their schedule is booked for months out, they don't do mobile welding, they don't do car related welding or their website is no longer active. And, in one case where I did find someone who would do it, the guy quoted me $350-$500 to weld two spring perches on. Does that sound right? Seems like quite a lot of money for the small amount of welding I need.

Is there a reason you can't take the rearend to a welding shop? If you mark clamp the perches where you need them they should have no problem welding them in place. That.s what I did with my last rear and the job only cost $35.

That's pretty high price for welding the perches. Keep in mind , someone is coming to you to do the work. Usually that's at a premium. If everything is marked and mounting areas of the perches and on the axle tube are grinded down, with the assembly out from under the car so when the welding guy comes over, he has no prep work I would say about $50. If the welder guy needs to prep everything then it would way more than that. You didn't indicate if everything is prepped and ready for welding.

The area where the perches need to be welded on is free of paint, etc. The rearend is in the car so the perches need to be tacked and then I will drop the rearend out for the full weld. Got another quote from a guy who is only about a mile from me and he wants $200. Better but still seems high for the amount of welding that has to be done.

Can't comment much but... cool
Typically a $$ charge for a mobile service, can be divided into (2) parts.
Part 1 is just his travel expense/time and part 2 is his labor and supplies for the task.

Just my $0.02... wink
