It will turn into a butterfly or moth after it makes a cocoon to make the change later this summer.
My wife use to raise tomato in her greenhouse, those same type tomato worms would get on her plants and she would not touch them, she would pay our kids .25 cents per worm to take them off the plants and feed them to her chickens haha shruggy

Unfortunately I do, it’s a menace to my Tomato plants!

When I was child in the 1970s my dad would place a razor blade on the very end of a stick. Us kids would walk along the tomato plants and just barely touching the worm with the sharp razor blade would cause the work to drain itself off the plant and onto the ground. They are so plump and full- just a nick with the blade and they would drain like a waterbed that's been sliced with a knife. Fun.

Keep old mopars alive.

I found two more of them since my original post, all about the same size. The wife and I were talking about them and we both thought, how is it they are suddenly there and so big? They are about 3" long yet we never see them until they are that big. You'd think they would be noticeable at half that length but we haven't found any smaller ones.

They can be tough on gardens, but they are also a north american native species which produces a pretty cool moth. So we hand-pick them off our "good" plants when we see them and always plant 1 or 2 sacrificial plants away form the garden for them to eat.

With all the invasive non-native pests we have to deal with (Japanese beetles, EAB, etc, etc,) I try to give the native ones a break when i can. Plus when the hornworms show up the native insects that prey on them aren't far behind..

And I try to use less of the sevin dust like I used to because it doesn't know the difference between pests and desirable caterpillars.

Anyway, that's how we do it.
