This thing is driving me crazy, compressor still turns but the cold air stops at high outside temps (95, 85 stayed on longer. I can turn ac off wait about a minute then it comes back on, then it repeats the cycle. Been re charged twice. Replaced the flow control switch (SnapOn said it was bad) has 40 psi on low side, 180 high. Released a little pressure today now it won’t blow cold at all, compressor still turns? ???

Year, make, model would be helpful. Guy I work with just fought with the bosses Lexus(2018ish?). It was doing the same thing and had a code for some flow switch. He dug through bulletins and found something about it. seems the switch alone wouldn't fix it? He ended up putting a compressor on it and all is well? I didn't get involved with it just trying to remember what he told me....odd one for sure. That’s the code mine came up with, flow switch. I got a new one and it’s on it now, 2011 Corolla, 95 degrees and a lot of humidity (SC). When I get back to VA I’ll get a new compressor (250,000 miles on this one) then replace drier and other switches. If AC dont work on way home I’ll open windows like the old days lol.

After turning off the A/C for a while and turning it back on does the discharge air smell damp? If so, the evaporator coil is freezing and thaws after sitting a while.

No, I don’t smell anything

I beleive the high (discharge) pressure should be higher at 95F ambient temp. Probably between 300-325 psig. You may be undercharged, have a leak or a compressor with capacity issues, possibly a leaking or broken compressor internal discharge valve. I didn’t have my gauge set at my dad’s, on road running 70 and it has shut off 8-10 times so far. When I feel the hot air I turn button off wait 30 seconds and it’s back on. I used the WalMart hose, gauge and big can this morning, emptied most to get to 40psi (temp at 82). Must have removed more than I thought last night because I couldn’t get it to blow cold then.

I just noticed the post on the pressures. (has 40 psi on low side, 180 high.) I agree the pressures are too low. 180- PSI high side will not cool with R134 at 95 degrees. 250 to 275 is my target and up to 300 on the high side. Low side should be 40 to 50 psi or sometimes a little less depending on the AC system. This is the chart I use and I tend to aim on the lower pressures for high and low sides when I charge.

Somethings way off, 80 on low side and 130 on high about 78 degrees outside. fourgearsavoy is the resident Toyota Master Tech. I would contact him before doing anything else.

OK, a little more info. Outside temp dropped to 80-82 after rain showers and it never shut down again (2-1/2 hours at 75-80 mph) so why does outside temp affect the AC? Is there a temp switch somewhere? I read above about his ‘hardbody’ turning off. I’m home so I’ll stick the gauges on later to get some accurate readings. Because added heat increases pressure in a sealed system.

Somethings way off, 80 on low side and 130 on high about 78 degrees outside. Read up on it and it says exspansion valve is stuck with low pressure on high side.

I would hook it up to the charge station and pull it down to a vacuum for about 2 hours to remove all moisture from the system. Your pressures are too low for a hot humid day. The symptoms do indicate an expansion valve freezing up and when it warms up it opens and lets the freon circulate again. I think you can access the expansion valve at the firewall on that car if the evacuate and recharge doesn't clear the moisture. The filter/drier is built into the condenser so you may have to replace the condenser for a proper repair. I have seen very few compressor issues on the Corolla and most of the time it comes down to a flow issue. Gus

Why in dash and not under hood?! I’ll do what you said and might try the flush kit too.
