I posted this in the Question and Answer forum but I'll put it here also if that's OK.

I have a 45k mile survivor 71 Imp that still wears bias ply tires.

I'm putting radials on it and I'm assuming the toe in spec should be different than for bias but the shop I use, while their machine actually has a spec for a 71 Imp, it doesn't differentiate between the two tires. Any suggestions?

Also the idler arm spherical bearing disintegrated and that arm is currently made of unobtanium, short of having Rareparts rebuild mine in 3 or 4 months. This is mostly sorta kind of a Cbody but a New Yorker idler is slightly different, as in identical but slightly shorter, 1/4" ish maybe. I've installed the New Yorker arm and it went on without issue and drives no different and no obvious tire wear but I've maybe put 100 miles on it since. I know there has to be some kind of different toe change right side to left when turning.

So questions are, toe spec for radial, will the slightly shorter idler change the toe sweep if that's what you call it, and will it actually matter?

Pic of both arms attached.

Kevin

i would go for 1/16-1/8" toe in, 1/2 degree negative camber, and all the positive caster you can get.
as to the idler arm, it won't make any difference in my mind.
just my opinion. your mileage will vary.

My wife dropped the car off at the shop for tires and the alignment.

His machine doesn't speak English, it's all in minutes and seconds, but translated, we got just a hair over 1/16" toe, maybe 5/64, .5 and a bit degrees negative camber and 1.5 degrees positive caster.

The car was by no means undrivable before, but compared to the car my wife drove home, it was.
