At the few car shows I have attended; I found the effort by the promoters to service the attendees rather lacking. It also seems to me that for a while the age demographic has risen, no surprise there. But that being said, why are bathrooms so distance, why is there few if any places to sit and rest, why is there so little shade, why no fans or misters in above areas.
How about rental wagons to haul your swap meet finds, Be nice to have some standardized listing available at every vendor location of what stuff they are selling, to save everyone's time. None of this may apply to you starting out, but if any of the big hitters are reading this, please take note. I also wonder are there car show options for displaying an owners collection all together in one spot, vs spread out every which way by year model make?

Not a fan of the music at shows being far too loud. Also sick of the same old car show songs - The Beach Boys and whatnot over and over. Better if there was no music unless it's a live band.

Parking organization can be a mess. Car clubs tend to want to park in a group together so they try to reserve spots for their friends who are late or lost. Get fully organized outside first, and then go in as a group together otherwise you're sol.

Some shows try and park cars too close together. Need some room to be able to open your doors all the way and so people can walk around the cars.

Car shows start typically at a time so that after everyone is in and parked you're walking around during the hottest part of the day. Some older folks have a hard time with the summer heat so this is not great for them. Not sure what the best solution to this is if there is one.

Thanks for your thoughts guys!At all my past car shows I'm the 1st person you meet when you drive in,I let people know where they can park.I definitely make sure people aren't parked on top of each other there will be marked out areas. We hate the heat my wife and I have been in extreme heat so our mopar show will be in the early fall. penguin up wave drive

SHADE! And grass rather than asphalt would be a nice touch.

Really hard to spend an afternoon on hot asphalt in the sun. At least for this old guy.

Fall in NJ should be a good idea, and from what I remember when I lived in South Jersey, folks liked to eat.
Maybe have a Philly pretzel vendor - I don't recall food trucks, like we have out West, but a variety would be a nice touch.
I agree on the room around the cars.
Might be good to have a swap meet, though that usually means clean-up.
You can save a whole lot of hassle if it's not judged, and I think that loosens up the vibe as well.

Will this be a judged show...if so by who? Personally I like the cruise-in style shows. We have a guy that does one at the local bowling alley every Weds. He has a bunch of sponsors that help fund it(local shops/businesses)No cost entry for cars or spectators. Show up when you can, leave when you want. All makes/models. There's a few local bands that play throughout the season. He has food and drink specials through the bowling alley. So much fun.....park your ride, grab a sandwich, a cold beverage, hang out with friends, listen to music! There's 250-400 cars there......EVERY week! 70s and sunny today...I'll guess 300+...heading out early to get a good spot.

I agree with the above posts about no loud blaring 50's music you cant hear over. A large tent with tables and chairs near the food truck is plus. Find the local auto parts stores to sponsor prizes or goody bags for judged show entries.

If the show ends up primarily musclecars as most mopar shows do.... what's the point in a stream of Big Bopper era music?

A mix of Classic Rock and almost anything 80s/90s Gen X era (could be pop, hard rock something or other or even a punk tune here and there) is far more
appropriate than "splish splash I was taking a bath".

As great as all that was, It's played out, all car shows have the same stuff... but sadly most of the folks who relate to the
50s material don't even have cars anymore.

having the experience of organizing a show for our local yearly festival, i know all too well what a SERIOUS JOB this can be !
i did this in 1989, 90, and 91, way before "Al" [not Artificial Intelligence, but Albert G. - and most of you know who i am referring to, biggrin] "invented" the internet........
tons of hours invested, and the results were 125 vehicles the first year, 375 the second, and over 425 the last year.
i allowed anything on wheels that moved under it's own power to be displayed, and i took over this project because the board that puts on this festival had no clue how to do a successful show, and it was ready to disappear into the dust bin of history.
as this was before the internet, i had tons of fliers printed, and recruited an army of friends to distribute them all over several states when they attended shows, and had them post the fliers at their local watering holes and stores they frequented that would allow poster display.
i also spent many, many, and many, hours writing letters to EVERY magazine that was published at the time, that listed show schedules.
then it was "mooch time" for giveaways to entice vehicle attendance, and i contacted all kinds of companies that advertised in all the magazines, plus local businesses, for door prizes.
i was able to give away 3 engines, a mopar 360, a ford 302, and a chevy 350, several [rebuilt] transmissions [of the winners choice, his favored make], tires in sets of two and four, oil and filters plus complete free oil change coupons, tools, magazine subscriptions, cleaning supplies, etc.
a modest entry fee was charged, but every entry received a goodie bag that contained a large amount of USEFUL trinkets, not like the bags of today that only contain show fliers and MAYBE an ink pen and refrigerator magnet, plus a door prize ticket. i made sure i had enough door prizes so that every participant received something semi-useful, then those tickets were tossed into a big, see through, rolling drum [you know the kind i'm refering to] to be mixed up for the "grand" prizes, of which i would pick a random child to reach in and grab the winning ticket[s].
as for trophies, the local sports shop helped me out with these, and i got the local Fraternity Order of Eagles, my buddy's beer store, and the local auto parts to be the main sponsors of these shows.
any funds left over were donated to local charities, then i started from scratch for the next year's show.
this ended up being a second full time job, taking hours and hours from one year to the next.
then politics entered the picture..........
the festival board saw how much money i had donated over those three years, and thought the festival should have a "cut" of those funds..............
when that happened, i quit ! the next year, the show almost disappeared with less than 50 vehicles showing.......
over the many years since, cruise in style shows have followed, and the local festival has somewhat bounced back, [with a change of board members several times since] so these years, an average of around 75-100 vehicles enter yearly. trophies are handed out in several classes, and all in all, it's a lot more laid back and a more enjoyable show now.
i have been asked repeatedly over the years since, if i would help out, but i respectfully decline, as i don't want to go through the politics of it again.
i also have many people come up to me and say : "your shows were MUCH better !" and although i could "say things", i just tell them thank you, and move on.
this is just my personal life experience putting on three car shows a long time ago.
your mileage will vary..............

No newer Challengers, newer Chargers, newer Mustangs, newer Corvettes. My God, what's with all the newer C6,C7 and C8 Corvettes? They are like 25% of the shows anymore.

I have been diggin these local show n shines...I went to one last night at a small town within 30 miles of me. There were around 35 plus cars there. I would bet that the town has a population of 30 or less people! There's a small bar, a grain elevator, and a church. Everyone gets along great and are people who enjoy cars! There were probably 6-8 Mopars on hand. My 69 GTS 340 will never win a prize anywhere but it is fun to attend these events. We are going to another one Sunday! wave
