Never heard this story before, nor the option of black.
Either it's a unicorn, or an epic BS story.
There is a line on the Monroney - which I think started in 1958 - that mentions a Fury option, then another with the 350 CI Fury engine.
Seller does seem to hedge a bit on "Belvedere Fury", but I'm baffled.

"Special order" lol. Every single car that was ordered was special ordered. Right up there with "Still smells new" on a 50 year old car.

Was hoping someone with deep Exner-era experience - maybe Mike McCandless - could shed some light on the Fury-option stuff.

As for the other comments:

Yeah, nothing "special" about maybe 99 % of orders - most were placed by dealers for stock, or factory build-outs. I've ordered many new cars over the years, and it was always a run through the option list, and wait.

As for the aroma, oddly enough I can still detect a '50s GM or '60s Mopar just by scent; for some reason, they usually retain that, though there have been exceptions.
(Like a '53 Ford farm truck I worked on a few years ago laugh2)

Oh, it's cool as heck - in spite of the Dodge wheel covers, dead rear springs, and underhood & upholstery liberties - but yeah, it's mysterious.
IF it's so incredibly rare, it seems more proper to restore it as original; but not everyone shares that value system, which I understand.

I suppose it's possible. A dealer in Indiana ordered a plum crazy colored ( code 999 or 666 smile ) Magnum for his daughter. And he got it!! It was NOT painted after the dealer rec'd it, it was done @ Windsor! ( even someone added a continental kit )

4k Suggested retail in 1958 was a BIG chunk of change 😳😳 I don't mind the interior but it and few other things might hurt it a bit. be interesting to see what it goes for, Definitely a looker and a rare bird drool
