Looking to sell my 1971 Demon 340 project b/c I have no time to finish it and have too many cars. I got a lot done to it over the covid shutdown in 2020, but haven't had time for it since. It was a bracket race car, but was never cut up. It does have subframe connectors, but other than that it's pretty stock. It's a real plum crazy 340 car w/ fender tag, build sheet, original window sticker, even a Musclecar Review magazine from the early '90s it was featured in. Matching numbers 340 engine. Car was running when I got it, but removed the entire drivetrain for paint. Bottom end was good, rebuilt the heads, changed to a Porter spec'd FAST style solid flat tappet w/ EDM lifters. MP dual plane intake, but I have the correct 1971 t-quad intake for it. Engine hasn't been fired since I put it back in the car. Stock crank and rods, speed pro flattops, pump gas 9.8:1 compression. Mildly worked J heads, factory HP manifolds. I have new exhaust tips and the short TTI head pipe sections for it. 904 trans was freshened up, has a low gear set, custom torque converter, stock VB w/ a shift kit, etc. I do have a 727 from a '71 340 Duster that goes w/ it that I intended to rebuild and put in the car eventually. Original 8.75 w/ 3.23 suregrip all freshened up. New factory spec leaf springs. New brake and fuel lines. Original fuel tank in very nice shape, cleaned and reinstalled. Rear brakes are new, new master cylinder. Haven't been through the front brakes or front suspension. Have new front suspension rebuild kit for it. Bumpers look OK, but would need re-chroming to be really nice. Manual steering, manual 4 wheel drums, no AC. Came w/ a bench seat originally...which I do have. Had buckets in it from a '72 Demon I believe. Have back seat too. All seats will need recovering. Originally ad a white vinyl top, which the previous owner removed when they did the body and paint. The grille and the complete dash assembly burnt up in a building fire a couple years ago. I know replacing the dash will not be cheap (1971 only ralleye dashes aren't easy to find). The original VIN tag on the burned dash is actually in very good shape and could be put on the replacement dash. The heater box I rebuilt and reinstalled. Original radiator restored.
Mainly needs the interior put back in and the grille, front bumper, and valence reinstalled. I do have the back glass, but no windshield. The headliner is new and installed. Have new carpet for it. Have a lot of other new parts for it. Car has all its original sheetmetal. Never wrecked, only rust was a small spot on a lower 1/4 that was cut out and new metal welded in. Have the original ralleye wheels, center caps and trim rings. Wheels have been blasted and repainted. I know the pics aren't the best, but it's what I have right now. The car has been under a cover in the corner of my shop for the past few years. Going to get it out and clean it up soon for better pics. Clean title.
Having a hard time figuring what to ask for it. Thoughts?

Does it currently run, Chip? No. I was about to start redoing the dash so I could reinstall it, finish the wiring, and get it running. That's why the dash was in our "gameroom"/storeage building that burned down in 2022. The grille was laying on my pool table in there. ![frown frown](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/frown.gif) I could temporarily wire an msd box and have it running.

I think low 20’s. Still needs some wallet thrown at it to make it a true 40k plus show poodle. But absolutely make a great unit for somebody wanting to pick away at it and enjoy it long term.

I have to think that to maximize the sale price as it currently sits, it would have to be running. Engine is not running and has never even been fired would hurt the price with most buyers, no? It's a really cool car, love it. Is that a disc brake m/c with 4 wheel drums?

$20-28K in current condition. Will take about $10K to finish and would be worth about $40-42k then... a little to generous if you ask me. Im thinking 12 to 15. Just me. Agreed, maybe high teens to very low 20s way it sits IF the right buyer wants it 40k for a running driving 340 A body has a LOT of competition in the market I gave serious thoughts to make an offer on This one a while back. All original paint 72 Duster 340 a while back. Asking $40k. Really nice , but not perfect car As it turned out. I actually looked at this very car about 30-35 years ago when it was in northern Ky for sale ( for A LOT less money ) So i know the car and came dang close to making an offer on it. If it would have had factory air. I would own in by now . I liked it then and liked it now. But came down to same reason I didnt buy it many years ago, NO A/C

There's definitely a disconnection between the value of the parts and a running/driving car. One can make a case for the OP's car being maybe $30K in parts, plus it's painted, it's #s, and a lotta folks love purple. But when you look at running/driving and nice 340 A-bodies, they're not a lot more unless they're upper end. The caveat to all the above is it's all internet photos, which almost always flatter the car in question, right ?
All that said, it's obviously easier to ask more & come down, than go the other direction; and everyone selling an unfinished car has a financial-pain threshhold.

Thanks for all the replies folks. Sounds like what I kind of had in mind was about in the middle of the estimates here. I've already had a bunch of PM's and phone calls and I haven't even made a for sale ad yet, lol. I haven't had a chance to get the car out of the shop, clean it up, and take any pics. Thanks again yall. ![beer beer](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/beer.gif)
