Thank you to all our veterans that made the ultimate sacrifice. You’re not forgotten. I read this poem every Memorial Day weekend after attending a service where it was read a few years ago.
In Flanders Fields BY JOHN MCCRAE
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

i always like that poem. thank you sir, for posting that. We always heard that poem in high school every memorial day. My wife and I put a flag on my brothers grave today. He was US Army from 1975-1996. Had numerous citations and 2 bronze stars. He was in several skirmishes and wasn't wounded. Yet he lost the biggest battle of all this past February. Cancer ate him to the bone...

Had an uncle KIA in Nam in '69 when I was less than 3 YO, I never got to know him. Most everything about him was a taboo topic and I was told to not ask family anything when I was a kid.
In young adulthood I finally got my Dad to spill the beans about his youngest half-brother. It turned out we had alot in common, my Dad was sure we would have been friends if he'd lived. Guy was a total gearhead and could have qualified for Class II-S Deferment, but he chose to go as a matter of duty and pride.
I went looking online an found a friend of my uncle's fairly recently posted a big writeup on LinkedIn about his friendship with him and their automotive/mechanical exploits together, it was pretty amazing to read. I did re-post it on that platform.
