My car trailer deck is still very sturdy, but the planks are showing some weathering. Is there a wood preservative that can be applied to bare, weathered wood, that don't require sanding? I'll give it a good scour with a pressure washer beforehand. I seem to recall that there's stuff for fence boards that require pressure washing, then you can apply with a brush or a garden sprayer. I'm not looking to make it like a house deck, just slow up the weathering.

Used motor oil thinned with diesel fuel?
If you're looking for something "cleaner," tung oil.

EDIT: ......one more thing. Regardless of what you decide to use, wait a week to treat the deck after pressure washing it.

This

A friend told me about this. He uses it all the time on his farm. Boards installed on his fences over 5 yrs. ago still look like the day he put them up. up

Oil should work, until it sees water & gets slippery, no ?

I sealed up an outside deck on my previous house with some stuff from Home Depot.
Roll it on, fills cracks & splits, leaves a textured surface, and comes in several colors.

Thompsons Water Seal is what I used...

I had a wooden deck on the back of the house and tried just about everything on the market. Within 1-2 years the area exposed to the sun would look like hell but the shaded area was fine. A 12 pack and a SAWZALL finally fixed the issue along with X yards of concrete wink have you thought about covering the wood with something like Diamond plate??? might find some used on FBM or C/L. Don't think they make a bedliner type coating for wood. Also not sure of oils long term effect on the wood strength wise? Maybe try a Boat/marine forum shruggy

drive Hi , I like using Boiled Linseed Oil on my Cam Superline- Maxum 20 foot Wood Deck Car Hauler . Laying on a hot Wood Deck Car Hauler at CARLISLE covered with cut Drain Oil , while strapping down a car is NOT for Me . You can just apply Linseed Oil with a Roller , Doesn't matter if it gets on Metal , will Protect that too , Just like the Farmers and Machinists did for last 100 years . drive Great Stuff , and NO Enviromental headaches ! bump

As far as being slippery, I know we used the old motor oil/diesel fuel on steps (like a staircase) going into a deer stand several years ago and they don't get slick in the rain. shruggy
As far as lying on the boards I couldn't say. work They are dry to the touch and almost look painted.
