This is an ongoing thread on Speed-Talk that I found interesting, especially because it addresses an "Engine Masters" video I remember watching some months back: https://www.speed-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=67124

The remarks about fuel dilution are the ones that resonated with me the most.

It's sort of funny, nobody can seem to tell if this is a good oil or a bad oil, unless they're provided with the brand name.

I think most are very bias with their choice of oil. I have used Amsoil Dominator and Driven GT1. I happen to like GT1 and use it a lot. Holds its viscosity well and doesn't leak all over the ground like the Amsoil. The GT1 sure does look awful similar to Bad Penn thou. I use the 15-40 GT1, good enough for what i do. In the engine Masters vid, they did mention the Coyote racers using a thin oil and losing power, ring seal with too thin of an oil. Pretty sure the Coyote engines all have a thin ring in those, not the old 5/64 ring.

I know a little -- very little -- about oil analysis. Given what I supposedly have learned, I'll take a s(?)wag about it
- VI and flash point both "meh"; probably straight petroleum or low-level synthetic blend
- ASSuming advertised as 15w50 or 20w50 from the viscosity measurements
- typical "old school" phos & zinc levels in the 1000-1200 ppm range
- really good HTHS rating, which I've heard used as a good indicator of how well the lube holds up under load
- TBN looks middle-of-the-road for street usage, but higher than most "race only" oils

It "looks" usable to me (if that weight suited my application), but I wouldn't expect to run it for any extended periods before changing it

Nice work Brad.

Have to agree with you on all points, does seem to look useable by everything I've tried to pick up.

It is marketed as a "racing oil" as opposed to an extended drain product, and sold as a 20W50.

Used Amsoil Dominator 0-20 in a 625 hp drag motor with .710 wide/2.100 journal rod bearings, all rod bearings looked near new after 20 8300 rpm runs.

Used Maxima PS0 in a 900 hp drag motor with .655 wide/1.850 journal rod bearings, all rod bearings looked near new after 30 8800 rpm runs.

Good motor oil knowledge channel I just found today while watching a David Vizard video that linked to it.

I asked a guy in the oil industry one time about additives. His advice to me was not to add anything to the oil and leave that up to the engineers that developed it. This was when the shelf oil was going down hill and all the ZDDP additives were hitting the market.

He said the exact same thing as Speed is saying in that video.

You think you are helping but most likely will make it worse.

I tested 15w40 diesel oil against 10w30 gas oil in a rotary that I had tuned to a shift point of 10,200 rpm, it made 8 more rwhp with the 10w30. But oil tends to be like beer, people buy what their dad bought.
