My deck is at ground level. It appears some kind of critter is tunneling beneath it. Can anyone tell me what this is?

Probably a mole. They like to follow a straight line along the edge of a sidewalk, patio, etc.

I vote for Vole, similar to Mole. I had them for a bit. I noticed when I walked in the grass in some areas, I sank a little. They tunnel just under the surface. I set traps and caught them. If you find a hole, put a tap there with a box or storage bin over it to keep it dark where the trap is.

Little piles of black dirt getting pushed up from beneath the deck boards.

iagree I've got the same dirt mounds between my driveway and garage slab. My wife bought something that's supposed to take care of them but I haven't used it yet.

Watch “Caddy Shack” and call Bill. He’ll help you get rid of it!

Could be chipmunk... have you found an entry hole anywhere near deck? They like to make their dens under something.. like a concrete pad, big rock, etc.
